Show Your Beaters
on: October 13, 2014, 04:24:19 AM
Forgive me if this has been done, but I really enjoy the SAK beater thread, so why not show whatever other beaters we may turn to when the work gets dirty?

For me it's my recently acquired Schrade ST-1, wish it had been a bit less rare of a tool but the condition I found it in makes it the perfect candidate.
So let's see them guys!

I wish I knew how to post the pics of the blue Gerber I just got from the Captain. Maybe he'll come along and do it for me. It is "well seasoned', I love it! Nice thread brother.

I think I may have seen it quite a while back, nothing like adding some character to your little metal partner in crime! Can't wait to see your new orange toy with some battle scars.

I'm wrestling with that very thought. I really don't collect anything, yet I have a ton of stuff. Guns, knives, MT's etc... I use all of them for a while then I give them to friends. I wanted a matched orange pair Fuse/Farmer but I don't know why. Maybe I'll put these in my office since both items came from good friends. Everything else gets passed along to others...

I'm there with you, way too many hobbies, and way too much interest in the gadgets that come with them. I do think the orange set would look pretty slick though man!

No problem. Shes quite a user, but still 100% function-able. There is a reason the call the Gerber MP600 the AK47 of multitools.

How cool is that?  I just whisper the Captains name and he appears.  I knew he was around,  I sensed a tingling in my nether regions...

Now that's a beater! I had to own this one just because it was the Captain's and I had heard of it before, but had never seen it.  He made me a good deal and I'm proud to have it.  I like that it has "character", anybody can buy a new one.  Mine looks like it had a bad breakup with Chris Brown...

20 year-old original Superool. Still in use. I wish Leatherman still made them like this.

Up until I got a Rebar a couple weeks ago I carried it everyday for work.

Here's my other abomination, multiple broken tools, ground blade, smurfed wire cutters, oh and I found it at the bottom of the lake before inflicting the damage.... Sorry Gerber people!

As for tools I don't have anything that compares to scattergun.

Wow, cap, what did you DO to that plier head on the MP600?

I just repeatedly whacked a cheapo plier head with a paving stone and didn't do that much damage.

Uhhhh....

No?

I mean, none that were beaten up through honest use. I do occasionally destroy them like an angry child frying ants with a magnifying glass.

I traded away my first MT, a SOG Crosscut, because the scissors were no longer absolutely precise. That's part of my crazy.

Your Sidekick is on its way there, just by an accelerated wearing out. I hope you didn't think I meant tthat with ill will.

Not at all. It's all good.  :tu:

It's just, really, I don't have a job where I do a lot of fixing on a day to day basis, so I've never had the opportunity to wear out a tool through actual practical use.

And, the Sidekick's damage is from intentional abuse. Or at least, doing stuff with it that I consider abusive.

But... yeah, that Sidekick is getting put through it's paces.

The Gerber is the only one I've really beat on, and that's just because I used it as a  kid for everything. And we all know kids don't do the brightest things.

I'll put up pictures of my X-Tract as that's a bit tired due to honest work. I'm sure Harley will love it.

:D  Sugar would probably be very upset if she found out you called her a beater.  That would cost you quite a few hamburgers before she forgave you........

It struck me the other day that my EDC at work was starting to develop a wonderful patina - lol

The Rolson Box Cutter has been my EDC for the past 10yrs - I think this particular one has now held up for the past 6yrs - the Previous 2 I had would last approximately 2yrs each before falling apart. Fantastic knife in my view

The Gerber Balance was purchased over a year ago - I decided to finally try out EDCing an MT in real life environments. Whilst it rides exceptionally well in the pocket the tool has limited use, but use nonetheless.
