I have a micro farm with pigs, cows, sheep, and assorted poultry.  Whitetail deer are hell on my fence. Inevitably whenever I don't have a tool on me I find fence that needs repaired.
So i'm looking for a multitool I can EDC. I currently carry two SOG Flash II,and a cheap razor blade knife as well as my handgun ,phone and pen. So obviously weight is a concern but so is durability, capability and PRICE.
Im not very brand loyal but do like SOG products but, while the compound leverage looks nice, their multitools do not appeal to me.
I want a good knife blade, large as possible, available without opening the tool, great wire cutters and great pliers.
Im leaning toward the Leatherman Wave and Surge but Im also looking at Gerber and open to suggestions.

Hello!
Go with the Surge. Its a big tool, but it will handle anything. Next would be the Wave.

Welcome,  I was thinking since you said great wire cutters so the Surge would be a perfect tool or the ST 300 since both have terrific wire cutters and OHO blades.  You also said weight is a concern so maybe the Rebar vs Wave since the Rebar has the 154CM wire cutters.

Howdy Hank! SuperTool 300 or Surge for larger tools. what kind of fence are you working with.
Smaller MTs might not take the abuse of barb wire or hog wire fences.
What? Enablers! Are you serrrrious? Where? I dont see any.

I'd agree with this. :tu: Surge would be my choice if you don't need the saw too much as it has a replaceable t-shank saw, so it's a bit shorter than that of the SuperTool 300.

Welcome mate.

To add on to what Enki said, the t-shank could allow you to carry longer saws since most jigsaws have a similar type of attachment

Thanks for the welcome and advice.
My fencing is 17 gauge galvanized steel and 14 gauge galvanized steel with some stainless stranded polywire used for gates and temporary paddocks. All of which is hard on the blade of my flash II :D.
Im glad to see my research has me looking the the correct direction.

Welcome to  :MTO:, and please enjoy your stay!

Hope you will find what you need soon, New LM Surge with replaceable wire cutters is probably the best large size workhorse that will be able to withstand the abuse.  And if you use the cutter for heavy duty cutting often, the replaceable feature will come in handy.  :tu:

SURGE has replaceable wire cutters as stated, and outside accessible knife like you wanted. Super tool or rebar does not have outside accessible tools. Price wise GERBER 600 and the like have awesome hard wire cutters that are triangular shaped, which give you 3 sides to rotate before replacement or sharpening, but no outside knives. I think the NEW style surge is worth every penny  :D happy hunting and welcome

Welcome!  If you're working primarily on high tensile galvanized wire fencing, I'd carry this:

Or similiar.  Nothing works better for fencing than a dedicated fencing tool.  As backup, Wave/Charge/Surge is good, but after a few times twisting the wire with the pliers head, the tips will be looking to shear off.
