Replacement saws for Pro Scout
on: October 20, 2014, 11:21:06 PM
It's not like I'm trying to find the Holy Grail here... I just want replacement saws of various types for my Gerbers. I couldn't find any at Ace hardware today that had the holes in them. What's everybody else doing? Thanks in advance...

Keep looking there out there.

It took me a couple stops at the local hardware stores to find them.

If I remember correctly (not great odds there), my Bosch blades worked in my MP800 blade holder.

Are these things made out of "unobtanium" or what. They seem to be quite rare.

The next thing I knew, I woke up duct taped to a fire hydrant with a corn dog in my a#%, and Derek was eating sushi off of my girlfriend's belly. The last thing I remember was Derek saying, hey Stew, does this rag smell funny to you? The rest is all a blur. How's that for the start of one of our usual thread derails?

Please, mind your manners boys.

On the topic:
Shouldn´t it be possible to drill the necessary hole in a sawblade? They are most likely only hardened at the teeth, aren´t they?
If they are completely hardened, a carbide bit should take care of tha work quickly.

The general problem is that the U-Shank, which was as widespread as the T-Shank got outrun by the T-Shank by now so blades are getting harder to find.

That's what I'm having to do lately. And Derekmac and Zoidberg are responsible for all of this. I was just looking for sawblades...

Brands that still produce U-Shank with hole:
Vermont America
Task Tools

Or you could get a whole set from SEARS
Sears actually has tons of jigsaw blades

And here is why T-Shank rock

P.S.: Bosch does not produce U-Shank with holes anymore
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

I got some off the bay not to long ago.  Just type in "2-3/4 U-Shank" and you should get quite a few to pick from. Just be sure it has that hole that the tab fits into.
