Leatherman Sideclip for US$80

Is this a good deal? It has the original box, although beaten up. It's been sitting in a store window for quite some time, apparently...

I've seen used Sideclips sell for over $60 on ebay, so I'd say $80 for a NIB Sideclip is a good deal, even if the box is a little beat up.

I wouldn't necessarily say it's a GREAT DEAL OMG BUY IT NOW 

but I do think it's a good deal.

Thanks, that was the kind of comment I was looking for. One thing that might make it more appealing is the fact that I can get it here, in Portugal. No shipping costs, no customs hassle, I get to see/touch the MT.

Usually, Leatherman's MT are expensive and rare here. Waves (the most common) go for €120 +/-, Style PS/CS €30 +/-...

I won't use it, probably. It'll be more of a trophy, being discontinued and all... if I do buy it, that is.

The NIBs are going on eBay for anything $100-180 these days, even used ones are $60+ at a minimum.

I managed to score few weeks ago one on the lower scale for $53 but that was a beater and it took me good 2 afternoons to recover some of its former glory. It's good now but mint or NIB it certainly isn't.

Sideclip is one of the most popular older standard production LM models, ever. I wouldn't hesitate if I were you.

You mean brushed? They used to sell for similar $$ being the later models but I haven't come across one for some time now.

I guess? I figured it was called polished since it has a polished look to it.

Cool. I am only aware of two Sideclip models released, beadblasted finish (older) and brushed finish (later). The brushed model comes with polished side rulers.

But I could be wrong.

Take good look at the surface finish.
The later model Sideclip has been loosely called "polished" by many.

Hope some owners of the later model would add to this discussion to clear the confusion.

I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong or if ti is called brushed or polished. I just want to know what the Brushed/Polished Sideclip is worth.

If you have a look on eBay (advanced search, "completed listings" only) you will see what Leatherman Sideclips have actually sold for (as opposed to what prices optimistic sellers are asking).

Prices are all over the place, ranging from $66 to $200 for NIB Sideclips.  I'll let you look at them to winnow out the "polished" prices from the "brushed" (there was two pages of 'em).

Only you can decide whether you want to pay the asking price or not.  If it was me I'd go and handle the tool, and then decide whether it was calling to me loudly enough to pay the asking price or not.

There's also a difference in the pliers. The older one reads "Leatherman USA", the newer "Leatherman Tool".

I have not kept up on current Sideclip prices. The polished or brushed ones use to go for a little more as there is not as many of them out there so demand was higher at one time. If I remember correctly the polished ones were only made for a year or two before the Sideclip was disco'd in 04. The one I have left is date coded 0403, 0503, 0503, 0803. The ploished one has the larger plier head and all the ones I've seen have Tool on it.
