I scored a very nice condition wave off of ebay for 35.00. Figure Ill give it a try to see if I like it. Which I do except. The knife blades are far to stiff to open quickly with one hand. Also the slot in them is hard to catch with my fat thumb.
Are there any replacement blades available that stick up further with a bigger whole for my thumb and does anyone have a suggested method beside oil for making them work more easily ?

Have you tried cleaning and oiling?

First clean it, just warm water and soap should work, scrubbing into the pivot a bit, too, use an old toothbrush or something like that. Then oil with a lube of your preferance. If that doesn't work, more oil, and just open and close the blade a few hundred times (no exact number, just, open and close the blade while watching tv or something)

After washing, make sure you dry the tool well as Leatherman's are known for rust-issues, sometimes.

I don't know of significantly different blades like you ask.

You wouldn't want a Spyderco style hump on a blade (ie bigger hole) in the blade as it would then get in the way when you try to use the saws, screwdrivers and other gizmos on the Wave.

Yep agree with what everyone's said so far.  My Wave blades were just like that, but cleaning, oiling, and opening and closing over and over loosened it up quite nicely.  Still not as smooth and quick as some of the nice OHO folders, but definitely usable.

I've heard of some people attaching a zip tie through the thumb hole and cinching it down and cutting off the excess, thus creating a thumb stud. I've never tried it, but it could help.

I have 6 Waves  with some the blades were hard to deploy and others very easy.  It's a combination of time and usage that will loosen them.

I've also seen the zip tie on the cutout used as an Emerson Wave feature ( not tried it myself ).  I attached a zip tie and it seems like it would work out nicely.

Like everyone said, she just needs broke in. You can also buy thumb studs to put on the blade.

Thanks. I blew the lube and lint out of it with brake cleaner. Then i worked it dry for a few hours. Lubed it with powdered graphite spray and worked it all day. It is getting better . I found add on thumb studs on ebay that will be added.
 Thanks again for the tips.

Good deal! It will smooth out nicely once it gets broke in.
