Who likes deep carry pocket clips?

I for one am on the deep carry ban wagon. I love em. I can see a few knives that would have a disadvantage if they did like anything with a wave feature and a few others, but besides that I like deep carry clips.

Sal Glesser just mentioned they are prototyping a deep carry hourglass clip.  :ahhh It will fit the Endura, Delica and models using that clip.   :drink:

Can't wait to see it and get a few.

Don't care either way. Just as long the clip works for the knife it was made for.

Noob here, can you explain to me what a "deep carry pocket clip" is?

I never used pocket clips until recently... pocket clips are awesome :P

Deep Carry means (almost) all of the knife is "hidden" inside your pocket. Some clips are positioned in a way that part of the knife is visible, giving you a larger area to grip it and take it out of the pocket. Deep carry makes you pull the knife by the clip or putting a lanyard in it so you have something to pull it by.

Examples:
Deep carry

Not so deep carry...

For the most part I like deep carry clips. Has to be comfy during use though, otherwise it gets removed.

Ride height on a clipped knife is for me as much as a factor as bladeshap and grip etc. I don't like advertising the fact I have a knife in my pocket, plus I don't like stuff catching on the protruding part of the knife. The only knife which I regularly carry and which doesn't have a particularly deep carry clip is the Wings Slipit. The benefit of that knife is the seperate plain edged and serrated blades, which can be very useful at times. Here's the Wings Slipit (left) vs Byrd Tern (centre) vs the original UKPK (right)

The UKPK doesn't get much carry in all fairness, partly because the blade feels a little too big for general use. I find the Tern to be a bit better sized, but that's just a perspective thing. In reality they are both good knives.

Here are (nearly) all my clipped knives .... I also have a CRKT Edgie, but that's stashed away in a kit and not to hand

Top row from the left:
Michael Vagnino Zipslip
Byrd Tern
CRKT Van Hoy Snaplock
Original UKPK
Leatherman Crater C33LX

Bottom row from the left
Boker Plus XS
CRKT McGinnis Tuition
CRKT Liong Mah #5
Wings Slipit
Buck X-Tract Essential

Probably very few compared to many members here  :P, but even so, some of these see very little use and as I said the ride height is certainly a factor in that. If we look at the ride height of the same knives (in the same order), you can see some sit noticably high.

The Snaplock, XS and Tuition all sit quite high and are both noticable and have potenial for snags. The Wings Slipit is excused such criticism purely for having the additional serrated blade. The Leatherman and Buck are just about bearable, but both are locking blades which means they don't get much pocket time - not a legal issue BTW - I just find a lock on a pocket knife to be completely unnecessary and more of a hinderance than a help. As I've said many times before, I find slippies far safer and having to put my fingers and thumbs in the path of knifeblades to release tham has led to more nicks and cuts than it has prevented.

The Leatherman and Buck, still do get some occasional carry - but in fairness I'm probably doing it more for the sake of it to justify still owning them  ::) This leaves the Tern, UKPK, Zipslip and Liong #5 as the better knives for ride height .... and of those, the Liong #5 and Tern get by far the most carry time

So, yes .... I do like a deep carry clip  :D

I really like the blade on the Essential and Fin (the Fin doesn't have a pocket clip). It's a good shape, it's easy to sharpen, and it feels good in hand too. To be honest it doesn't feel much bulkier than a lot of knives, and yet it comes with two screwdrivers and a HUGE pair of scissors  :D

The scissors on the Essential are long blades with short thumb lever, but on the Fin the blades are shorted with a longer lever (and of course the pliers, which are absent on the Essential) ... all depends what you're more likely to be cutting as to which would best suit you :)

I like them. they do make the knife sometimes a bit harder to get out but the ease of mind when it comes to concealment is worth it. And this isn't for some tacticool reasons, simply because I don't want the extra attention

I definitely prefer deep carry, and add deep clips whenever possible.  I like to be invisible when I am out in the public (wolf in sheeps clothing maybe), and a "hidden" folder is part of that.  Same reason that my Man Sack (Maxpedition Mongo) is not adorned with Zombie patches, nor my beautiful body with tats.  Stealth, baby.  Then, when I strike like a deadly viper, no one could see it coming.

I like deep carry pocket clips.  My Sog flash 2 has a clip that actually is extended past the end of the handle so it completely disappears into my pocket so to anyone looking at it, it might just be a pen or anything else with a pocket clip.

I have no real preference either as long as the retention is strong and the daggone screws dont completely suck.  I'm a lefty and inevitably when moving the clip the daggone screw strip.

Its hard to quantify, but I would put them in the "good" or "adequate" category.  Not super tight like a Cold Steel clip, though.

I prefer a deep carry clip. Spyderco's deep carry wire clip is my favorite I've tried.

I've never used a after market clip.

I really like how the clips look on Powernoodle, s delica and endura.

Just in case anyone is interested in deep carry clips for the Benchmade Griptilian. The 810 Contego clip will fit a Griptilian and Mini Griptilian. That is what I have on mine right now.
