Kantonsmesser 2014
on: October 25, 2014, 02:13:26 PM
This year the "Kantonsmesser" is dedicated to the Swiss Canton of Vaud. It’s a Canton in the french speaking part of Switzerland.

This year they changed a few details on the blades cutting and etching.
The laser cutting of the rounded lines is a tiny bit wider, while the cutting of the cross and “arrow” parts are a tiny bit narrower. This results in a more balanced overall look.

The picture below shows a comparison between a blade of an earlier edition (top) and the new edition (bottom).

On the backside of the blade this year the same canton’s crest as on the front side is etched. The earlier editions have the Victorinox Logo etched on the backside as showed in the second picture below.

Excellent looking SAK. :tu:

I've been discussing with Karl/ColoSwiss that we need a Series page for the Kantonsmesser for the wiki. As far as I know you have the most complete collection of them on the forum, and take great pictures too. ;)

So if you ever have some free time for that, would you mind doing a write up on their history, models used, which year for which canton and so on, we would be very grateful, be it as a thread here or per email. :hatsoff: (German would be fine too ;) )

That's ok. I'll write some info about the serie and I already have lots of pictures, so I'll post or send you some material. But I'll need a bit of time, a week or two  :)

Thanks, :hatsoff:

I'm a bit buried in real life work and stuff so I'll be creating the page when I have a bit more free time and can give it the attention it deserves.

Temporary version, I still need to finish it and so some edits and add links.

If you see something that needs fixing, let me know.

Well hopefully this should be it.

I added the clickable links to the table and a link leading back to this thread in case someone looking at the page has the missing early Canton SAKs.

Please read through it and check for spelling or similar mistakes as neither Martin not I are native speakers. Also, if you see any broken links or links leading to the wrong picture, let me know. There are about 90 links to pictures there and it could easily be that I made a mistake or two. ;)

Thanks again Victor7000 for providing the pictures and all the info for this series. I think it must be the largest and picture heaviest Wiki page we have so far. (except maybe the Pioneer page :D )

Well I do now ........     :woohoo:

The page had some formatting errors which have been completely fixed - and the page has had an overall refresh - It looks great now   :salute:
https://sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Victorinox+Kantonsmesser+Series

The really good news   :D    :D   is that we now have the missing images from early years in the Wiki page.
We are immensley grateful to ColoSwiss (RIP - still helping with the Wiki from beyond the grave) and Folder Beholder for taking the images.

I have also taken the great liberty of adding in FB's wonderful family shots as links from the page - I hope this is OK with you FB    :D    :tu:
I am really hoping we can complete the page with the last three missing models as we have identified a source for these.

EDIT PS: Actually - It looks like we have pre-approval to do this, further up this thread  from 8 years ago!!    :tu:
Finally I wrote some info and took lots of pics of most Kantonsmesser and you can find this in my blog.
You may use the info and text for SAKWiki if you like as well as the pictures.

One minor problem with the page - The left and right menu modules/sections have been pushed out somewhere - So we are seeing if we can fix that.
Hopefully not a big deal as you can always page back from your browser.

Well the page is finally complete now - eight years after it was started! - And something I thought may never happen!!!    :D       :woohoo:

Although to be faiir it could not have been completed until four years ago when the last model was released.

Big thanks to Victor7000 for most of the fabulous images and help with the page
And also to ColoSwiss and Folder Beholder for supplying the early missing images.
And also to enki and marduk who did all the hard yakka creating the first few versions - Man - That was a lot of work!!    :o
As enki mentioned - this is the most pic heavy and detailed page in the Wiki

The Series Pages in the Wiki are my absolute favourite pages ..... and this has to be one of the best of the best. :tu:  :D
Such a spectacular and beautiful set ..... and only 100 peices per issue - So prettty rare
... And the other thing that is great about this series, is that it is all about Switzerland - The Home of the SAK !!  :D

Hey and if anyone fancies buying the complete set ....... you can - for a mere 50,000    :pok:    :D
