What should I carry (EDC) next?
on: October 29, 2014, 08:46:24 PM
I shipped off my TiNi SOG Crosscut this morning.

On reflex, I just stuck a Leatherman Micra in my bag to replace it, but I have a good deal of options. I thought I'd let you all give me your pitch on what I should carry from the tools I have available.

I have, from Leatherman: a Squirt PS4, a Style PS, Style CS, and Micra
From SOG: a Crosscut 2.0
From IDL: T10
From Kershaw: Twocan
From Victorinox: Cadet, Stayglo Climber, Tinker
From Wenger: Egogrip 18

I reserve the right to ignore any feedback, and carry whatever the smurf I feel like, but thought it'd be fun to hear sales pitches. :D

I was surprised to see you sold your much sought after TiN Crosscut :o

As for your options   I know you're a scissors oriented person, so I'm assuming you'd lean more towards a scissors based tool than a pliers based one right?  If pliers aren't a real need for you at all, then I figure you would/should go with the Micra, Crosscut 2.0 or even the Climber.  If you would like to have pliers, then I myself would go with the Squirt PS4.  I know the scissors on that probably wouldn't be up to your standards though.

Good luck in your choice though :tu:

Just so you know, the green one is a PS. I swapped the handles from a green CS to the PS, because you can't get a green PS and I wanted one.

... because I'm crazy. :D

I think you should give that Twocan a try.  I've wondered how useful they were....

+1 on the combo :tu:  This, or Cadet plus Style PS.  PS gives you the tweezers, and the Cadet is smaller/slimmer than the Tinker.  Unless you need the Tinker's back Phillips compared to the Cadet can opener or Style nail file tip.

Tinker and PS is a very good call  :tu: although personally I would go for Climber and T.... oh T10? Sorry, I was thinking it was the T7 ... Style PS wins. It also means you can keep them clipped together

Tinker (or Climber) and Style PS.

... in fact, Cadet and Style PS would work too, if you can handle your phillips requirement with the can opener tip, as the Style already has tweezers and the pliers are fine enough for splinters too.

So that's settled then :hatsoff: Style PS and whatever bloody SAK you want  :D :D

or Micra and Cadet  :ahhh :ahhh

It would be an easy call for me.  Stayglow Climber for sure, as I've found it covers all of my regular needs quite well.  The stayglow material also seems more durable than the standard cellidor, and who doesn't love things that glow in the dark?  If scissors are important, (I've said this before, but I'll say it again) the 91 mm Vic scissors are rightly the standard by which all other MT scissors are judged.

For a bit more capability and a great light- to medium-duty combo, add the PS4 for the pliers, wire cutters, and file, as well as a few more screwdriver options.

I would stay away from the T10, as the T7 I had, while usable, left much to be desired in the F&F department and rusted rather badly simply from riding around in my pocket for a while.

The Tinker or the Alox Pioneer would be my choice.  I have three Leatherman tools and am quite fond of them, but in my day to day I rarely need a plier based tool.

Well, maybe the Micra and Cadet.  That should give you all the tools needed like scissors, tweezers, blade, openers, etc.

I would rather have the scissors on the Micra than the pliers on the PS4, at least in my day to day EDC.

My vote is for the evogrip, I like the balance and way it feels in my hand. The blade is sturdy and sharp enough for more jobs than you can throw at it. Plus I believe the screwdriver locks in place when you apply pressure keeping your hands safe :-)

Another vote for the Wenger. A much overlooked option.
How many people would commit crime to have a Huntsman-small in their pocket? Well, the S17 is just 1mm longer and has even better tool density with the nail file replacing the small blade.

See above. Climber 'cause is one of my favourites (even more with stayglow) and the PS 'cause I always carry one (regular black, don't have the courage to do the same mod you did).

Still, any combo will look good!
