Small sewing kit
on: October 30, 2014, 05:30:00 PM
I found this little sewing kit for .25c so I picked it up.  I tried to think about the times i needed a quick repair and recalled at least 2 times in the past few months.  A little kit like this in the glove box or purse would be a nice addition.  I like how the needles are already threaded ready to go.

I'll go back tomm and see if there are more and grab a bunch.

I have a couple similar kits that I've grabbed from hotel rooms.  One always rides in my hiking repair kit, but I should start keeping one in the car as well, good call.

Same her. Just exchange the "couple" with "dozens"!

I like the ability to sew on the go, it reminds me of my army days, when I had hair and a handful decades in front of  me.  I used my in Skinth kit to modificate my Skinth with a couple of D rings cannibalized from an old bag.

I've buzzed mine for the last decade and wouldn't think of growing it back.  I did have long hair for a bit in the late 90's however.

I was looking for one like that to throw in the overnight bag that is always in my car, but I couldn't find one for what I thought was sane amounts of money.

So last night, grab an altoids mini tin. Two sewing machine bobbins, which I keep on hand for repacking light wire and braided spectra fishing line. Wrapped those with black and white thread. Picked out a dozen safety pins in varing sizes, and 6-7 buttons in various colors and sizes, from the sewing box my mother gave me when I went to collage. Grabbed a pencil, cut off the eraser for a couple of needles. And squished a thimble into a more ovoid shape to fit in the mini tin. One wrap with electricians tape to keep it closed, and tada. If I need stronger thread, I have dental floss in my over night bag as well, but I still need to find a few BDU buttons. No need for scissors- this is MTO and I'm a SAK man.

I already carry dental floss, fishline and a largish needle in my EDC pack.

You can get the capsule in ebay for around 10-15 €. Just type in sewing kit, capsule sewing kit or vintage sewing kit. These things are around 50 years old. The rest you will have to make yourself, but it isn't all that hard.  :tu:

The colored one (Enamel) open.

All three need some work, but the inside is in good shape. you can see the yarn-spool are around the needle container.
