I need a bit o' flashlight help.
on: November 12, 2014, 10:53:31 AM
I was hoping to get on soon since my Streamlight protac dissapeared. And I was looking at the Foursevens tactical in 2xAA and 2Xcr123 something fierce and was wondering what yall's opinion on a good floody/throwy light is.

Never used a FourSeven light. The only 2 brands I have used is Surefire and Mag-lite. I do tend to like a tight beam over flood.
You might want to check out Mag-lite. There new lights are badass and have some serious lumens for for a good price. And they are still built like tanks.
One of there best I think is the Mag-lite Mag-Tac. 340 lumens and uses 2 CR123s. Its a flamethower. And they go for around $35.

I like my Fenix LD22 (2 x AA) and Fenix PD32 (2 x CR123) a lot. Both have a nice, tight spot while being quite floody as well. Both these have tremendous runtimes too.

I also like how floody the Led Lenser P5 is. That's a 1 x AA light, with quick focus to a tight spot. good to light up an area or for working close-up, however poor runtimes, mediocre water resistance and that soft clicky switch make it a back-up light for me.

The 2 x AAA LED MiniMag -84 lumens- is nice but it needs improvement in terms of focusing and batteries rattling; not only it makes it intolerable for me to carry this light, it's also what makes it flicker shamelessly right out of the box, I think. Overall, this light some times seems too bright for work up close and also too anaemic for taking it outdoors.

 I'm not a flashlight guru, those were just my two cents.

I have the FourSevens P0, P1,P2 titanium, and one of their big tactical lights (I can't remember the model sitting here at work for the moment). They are top notch lights with great customer service!! They sent me a brand new light once when I needed some warranty issues.

You can't go wrong with Foursevens. The best bang for your buck in the air very bright!!

Have a good look at the Eagletac D25A2 Clicky.  Do note when buying that it comes with different LED options depending if you want Neutral or Cool tints and floody/throwy beams, so make sure you buy the one that suits your needs.

Probably going to go with this battery and charger will be about the same as the 47s tactical.

I have 2 foursevens lights, a p1 and a p0. Both are excellent, small, floody lights.

I like that the foursevens lights start on the lowest setting, and get progressively brighter.

Sorry to say I don't have a lot of experience with other brands.

I've got a few Fenix lights too. They also seem to hold up quite well.

I have the previous generation og the TN12 and really rate it.  Thrunite offers great bang for your buck and are of the same quality as higher priced lights.

I have the Fenix PD32 and love it.  I have the 4 7's Atom A0 Ti and Proen P0 SS both are very well made and terrific lights.  I'd get another 4 7's product based on these little lights should the right one come along.

I also have a 2 AA Maglite with the multiple modes that sits in my truck.

I honestly have no idea it's very much a typo it's mentioned in every review I've watched.

If 2xAA is what youre after, I love my Sunwayman d20. It's an odd duck but quite practical in size to performance.

I've had the same 4 sevens 2 aa turbo for about 4 years as one of my work lights.

It's taken a unbelievable beating over the years and is still working perfectly.

My only 2*CR123 (well actually I use an 18650) is an Eagtac T200C2.
When I was looking earlier in the year, this was the best combination of price, size and throwiness. It doesn't have loads of fancy modes, just low-medium-high and spits out a lot of light.

My only gripe with it is that mode selection is a bit woolly. Fully tightened is high, loosen a bit for medium and loosen more for low. It's difficult to tell which mode you're in when it's off and it's impossible to pre-select medium. I have to loosen it a load, turn it on and then gradually tighten it.

I guess they want to avoid repetition of the same numbers? Still something's fishy here

I replaced a 1 AA Jetbeam II Mk2 with this and am quite happy (so is my wife since she got the Jetbeam).  It's nice and bright, easy to stand up and has been quite durable so far.  They say it's IPX 8 rated as well.

I went and got a belt pouch at REI that's designed for a small cell phone and it fits perfectly.
