AFAIK, alox knives were produced under the Elinox line from 1957-1973. +PAT, on Soldiers at least, goes until 1971, so let's assume the same for other alox knives. Early Pioneers had the large awl, and while I've never seen an official start for the thin awl, I've always presumed that it was a change that came along with the Model 61 Soldier (so, 1961). By this logic then the Pioneer would date to 61-71. There may be more ways to date it within that range, but I don't know what it would be. These knives really changed so little compared to Officer's knives that they can be tough to date to anything more than a ten year period.

The Woodsman looks to have asymmetric teeth, so that makes it a 1965/66 or before. I've always assumed that 61 was the big year of expansion for the alox line. This is based simply on the fact that alox knives with large awls are 99.9% of the time Pioneers, so the rest of the line expanded after the change to the thin awl. So I'd make the Woodsman a 61-65.

These knives aren't exactly in my area of research, so take with a grain of salt.

They should be here today so probably clean them up and shoot some more pics of them.

Is that what you meant?  ???

Thanks Z!!! It's a "bob-tailed" Sturdy Boy with no keyring. I say bob-tailed because someone shortened the awl at some point. I am constantly amazed how tight and snappy ALOX knives are even at 40 to 50+ years old!

Good stuff right there Robert! You staying warm down there my friend?

I've too have always believed that the red alox Elinox models ended sometime in the early 70's. The Elinox marked blades have always been my favorite for some reason. I always joke that it's because the Elinox blades cut better. Lol.

Oh to have the time traveling DeLorean to jump back and pick up a load of these as well as others from that period.

This one has been shown before, but here is another of one of mine. Syph modded it into an Electrician for me.

Lol - thanks guys. This one, and another red with a pen blade instead of the eblade are a couple of my favorites. Starting to get a little pocket worn look to them. The red coating is pretty durable. Some days, well most days, it's hard not to grab some Alox even when you have sime kinda expensive traditionals laying there too. No cure for the Alox pox.

That one of Roberts there shown above must have taken years before the red got that thin. Looks pretty cool to me actually. Much love and many miles on that one.

But I fear I'm rambling off topic again..sorry mods...time for my meds. :)
