The gap was there before. The resin - especially on older models - is known to "swell" over time. On some older G´s I have seen it was so much that the buttons were flush with the resin.
So only the scratches are new. I did not send you a perfectly fine G for torturing, you know...

The gaps has grown then, because one of the buttons is flush now, and was not before.
And I disagree, its perfect for torturing ;)

If more people are interested, that would be great!

By the way, the watch just went into the freezer for a 12 hour cool down.

Interesting tests, and nice to hear what our G-Shocks can take,
But the Question is: why all the thougness, if the Human which wears the Watch ditnd survive but the watch do??

I mean: its great our Watch ditnt get harmed of it gets run over by a Van, but the Human Arm isnt that though..

Somethimes, i waer my G under the Shower, if it also is dirty, and i waer it also on work, but thats "Kindergarten" for the G in this Threadt ^^

Hope your G also survive the next Tests,

Seems like the only to things which survives a nuclear war are Insekts and G-Shocks :)
Your SAK is only fully yours, when it bites you, or you opend a Trink of your joice whit it
SAKs i have: Huntsman Light (Red Transparent), Workchamp (Black), Wenger EvoGrip S557 (Red), Swisschamp XLT (Red Transparent)..

I think a big part of it, is the prestige - knowing, and being able to tell others, that your watch is though enough to endure whatever you throw at it. I've personally lost a watch, because I dropped it and it got run over by a car. Mind you, it was a very cheap childrens watch, but I still remember it.
Kinda like driving a Ferrari or Lamborghini, with a top speed in excess of 300 km/h. There really isn't anywhere you can get the full use of it, but it still feels soooo good.

Even though I could problably make do with a cheap and cheerful watch (my current watch costs less than 100 USD, if you're willing to look for it), I'm actually starting to consider a G-Shock, partly because of this thread.

BTW; I'm also interested in seeing how the clone fares against the real deal. :D

This is painful to see, a g don't deserve this, specialy such a rare model as a dw6600, but this is me talking, I'm a G fannatic
:) :) :)
Go on with the test I'll take a walk outside :)

And by the way show me what that fake one deserves :)

The inventor of teh G-Shock, Mr. Ibe wanted to create a watch that would withstand being dropped on a hard floor while trying to put on a watch, ramming it into walls and doroknobs (Which I scratched and cracked many crystals with...) and be watewrproof and reliable.
In the early 80s that was a rare combination, a Divers watch would often have a rather delicate movement which would not withstand a drop for example.

That it can survive much more is icing on the cake - I like to wear watch that I don´t have to worry about while doing my usual work/spare time stuff.
If it can withstand more than that, so be it - But it should not stand less.

For example, I hate having to take off my watch when using a pneumatic drill or having to watch out for obstacles when pushing a loaded pushcart not tom scratch it´s crystal.

And back to the G-shock fake: Pink (DW-9000 clone), blue (DW-5600 clone) or purple (no specific model´s clone) ?! I´ll send it out soon.

I can't speak for everyone here in Belgium, but I ,for one, sure would like to see that  :D.

Imagine if the G-Shock clone did just as well as the real G-Shock (or what if it did better ...  :dwts:).

Thats exactly why I love G-shocks. I have tendency to bang my watch into stuff, and have broken several watches that way.

The DW9000 looks similar to the 6600 so for me that would be a natural watch to test against. But its your choice ;)

I just took the DW6600 out of the freezer, and it is still running just as accurate as it did before I put it in :tu:

I cant remember ever having an issue with that
But as you say, there really isnt much sunlight to test.

I can however remember that the casio I had with me in the army (not a g-shock) did have trouble with the LCD display when the temperature dropped below -30C. I had to keep in in a inner chest pocket to keep it functioning.

I allways had analog watches, couple were ana/digi watch. Never had problems with hot or sun. Cold made digi lcd stop or unreadable. I wear my watches in shower, and sauna. Never had problems there.

Maybe someone from hotter sunnier climate could test or tell, how they manage in direct sunlight.

Maybe you could test it in sauna and shower?

I would have to find a Sauna then.
I have tested it in the shower and bathtub without issues.

I am however running out of tests. Suggestions are appriciated!

Swimming hall? You could put it in owen for awhile, with kettle of water for moisture. Then take it out to hand warm water, and see what happens.

You could freeze it into ice cube. Water tends to expand when it freezes. This could tell how seals will hold...

I live in Sunny California and haven't had issues with being able to read LCD on any of my Gshocks.  I wear mine daily and they get banged onto walls and dunked repeatedly into water.  I took a fall 10ft to the ground and while I was battered my watch was unfazed.

To reply to why the Gshock is made so tough.  I think the simple answer is because Kikuo Ibe the founding father wanted to make a watch that wasn't affected by hard use.  His 10/10/10 design approach was to design a watch that had a 10 year battery, could withstand 10 bar depth, and survive a 10 meter drop.

Keep in mind when the first Gshock hit the market DW 5000 in 1983 most digital watches in this segment didn't last long.  They were subject to damage and other issues.

These watches have been worn in space and are regularly worn by elite military forces, fire fighters, police, outdoor enthusiasts, and hard working people all over the world.  The attraction is that no matter what we throw at these watches they will continue to perform.  Sure we might not survive but it's sure nice to know our GShocks wont quit.

In all the years I've owned GShocks I've never had one fail for any reason.  It's great to know that a battery change is all these ever really need.  What else can you say that requires so little care yet is so darn tuff?
