Leatherman MINI TOOL
on: November 15, 2014, 12:08:26 AM
How rare is the BO Leatherman mini tool and did it come with a phillips driver. I was just given one in mint condition and am considering trading it. I know many members have wanted them and I even got one for EDCGEAR in the past and sent it to him. I just didn't know it came in BO. I'll post pics this weekend but for now, what's it worth and anybody want to trade anything for it? Thanks.

Pretty rare! I stumbled over one a few years ago,not realising until I'd posted here what I'd got!

Sadly though, they don't have a Phillips, just a can opener and a cap lifter in the outer legs,a small clip point knife, and a file/flat driver combo
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

I lucked into a Mini Tool, I just wish I could find an original sheath for it

They have a pretty simple tools set.  I have seen a few BO Minis on fleabay but never NIB.

I've seen used ones go for $60 plus and those weren't BO.  The price range is wide and a quick look at recently sold ones is low to stupid high.  The right buyer would pay dearly for the right Mini and a BO Mini could fetch more.

My (possibly incorrect) opinions - based on what I've seen (and not seen) on US eBay over the past 12 months or so:

Mini SS US Pat 4744272 = "most common LM Mini"

Mini SS Pat Pend = "less common"

Mini SS cleanskin (no markings on the handles) = "a bit rare"

Mini BO = "a bit rarer still"

Mini BO CC = "do they exist ? "

Mini SS made in Japan = "only ever known from a photo on a Japanese web site"  (the company that made Japanese PSTs)

If anyone has either of the last two I'd consider offering some $$$ or serious trade bait for them.  :pok:

Like PSTs the earlier ones had "Leatherman, USA" cast in the pliers around the main pivot, later ones had "Leatherman, Tool".

I'd agree with what Greg had to say about the Mini's.

Even more rare than that BO Mini would be a "cleanskin" Mini with only "Leatherman" marked on the pliers. (Look here about half way down the page: http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,29060.0.html )
I've never seen one of these for sale.

As far as a cap crimper Mini Tool... I don't think they exist but if so :gimme:.

The last couple BO Mini's that I've seen sell on eBay went for between $50 and $60. The last NIB BO Mini that I recall selling, sold for about $120 if I remember correctly.

I love the mini, it pairs with a SAK so well. :D

I need a BO one for the collection still though too.  I wish they would bring that tool back in a refreshed design.

Yeah, Bob (j-sews) has some rare MTs in his great collection.

I have an early cleanskin Mini with Hoffritz etched on the blade, but mine has "Leatherman, USA" on the pliers.  Bob's is only the second Mini photo I've seen with "Leatherman" only pliers (the other was of the "mythical" Japanese Mini), I've also never seen one for sale, and if I did I would be all  :gimme:  :gimme:  :gimme:   ;)

I've seen these "Leatherman" only pliers on some very early PSTs as well, so I'm guessing that one of Bob's is from the early days.

Here's the pics of the Mini. Date code appears to be 0195. It appears to be carried just a little but never used.

So pretty much a Micra but with pliers instead of the scissors?

Suprised that Leatherman does not make something like this, seem like it would be a good seller for office worker type folks.

My guess there were no BO CC made. Why would there be? Unless it was a proto for testing. At which I'm sure it would have been a miserable failure. Spend a little money and it would be easy to make your own fake one. Even the PST BO CC were not made after a certain point as there was really no need of them with bigger MT's with better leverage availible. Ever notice most of your BO CC PST's are date coded 93-95. they made some after that but not as many. i think they stopped some time in 2000. The lastest one I have is date coded 0300 - 0400.     :)

It is much more than that, it is a full size folding pilers with folding handles, ( its handles fold in half)  but I wish they include a + screw driver.

I lusted for one for a while, tonight I finally scored one.

You might find this one a keeper mate. As pliers they're far better than Squirts or Styles. They're great fun to play with, and make a great partner to a SAK

You will most definitely like this little thing. It is in mint condition and I have to say, I was very impressed with your work on the trade item. I really wasn't too serious about it until I saw it. Now I can't wait to get it just as you look forward to getting this Mini. Nice work Joel.

You are going to love that Endura Stew.

I have sprints and more expensive Spyderco's but I keep coming back to the FRN line. They are just so well made and durable.

Be careful if you never had one they can be as addicting as multi tools or even SAKs.
