There is no 5.0.1 for nexus 7, we'll get 5.0.2 eventually

Neither my Nexus 7 or Galaxy S5 have tried to update yet.

From what I read, there was a 5.0.1 update for Nexus 7, but it made things worse/no better and they pulled it in favour of 5.0.2 fixes.

I will be leary of a "new" Android version.  Kitkat finally drug down my Nexus 7 to the point that whenever the screen would turn off, I had to reboot the device at least once.

I tried the easier stuff and finally did a full factory reset.  After taking an afternoon and evening to get the thing reloaded, (software, accounts etc), it seems to be running pretty well again.  I have no idea why the reset worked, but I will say all the other "fixes" had no effect whatsoever.

I have kind of the same problem with mine.  It bogs down easily and I have to run Clean Master to free up RAM whenever I want to use it.  It's frustrating and one of these days I'll get around to doing a factory reset and run the updates and hope it improves.

I've always understood that a factory reset is the best thing you can do after a major system update on android.

Most people (myself included) don't want to go through all the bother of re-setting everything they use up again or restoring a backup, and thus don't bother... then the system runs poorly. Now I'm waiting for the 5.0.2 OTA update, then my nexus 7 is getting reset.

My nexus 4 oddly seems fine without a reset after the update to 5.0 and 5.0.1

Yes a clean wipe is almost mandatory for good performance, but restoring all those app and data is a pain in the butt so I don't always do it. My S2 was upgraded fro 2.x to 4.0 without wipe, then I did a clean install before giving it to someone else and I can tell it's faster than before.

Shouldn't be necessary with newer versions of android which is designed to run with memory near full, probably should do the reset.

Interesting observations after the factory reset:

1.  The Battery charges MUCH faster and doesn't discharge as fast
2.  The Nexus 7 runs much faster
3.  Extremely rare need for reboot
         A.  It seems to relate to when there are lots of automatic updates
         B.  The Facebook app seems to cause it more if left open
         C.  If the automatically start video option is selected on the FB app it is almost invariably going to freeze if the device has been off for several hours.

4.  The Factory reset has made a huge difference and I would recommend it to anyone who is having serious lagging or freezing issues.  I have google back up so that many apps automatically reloaded.

I did finally factory reset after 5.0.2 installed.

I've got most of my apps back installed, with a few still needing some config.

It seems better, but I'm not sure if it's 100%... my launcher has frozen when switching tasks and randomly force closes itself.

I think it was better with the fixes for 5.0 in place than it is now... I'll have to go back and see if I can do that again as it was also a dramatic change afterwards.

My Nexus 7 updated last night, I have yet to do a factory reset and I have to say that it is running beautifully. I'm very happy with this upgrade, at least initially.

It will take me a while to get used to the white keyboard and no separations between the "keys," but all in all I'm quite pleased.  My device is a lot more responsive than it has been in a while.

If you don't like that keyboard, you can probably find the old one to download and install.

I make a habit of not installing any app that Android already does without good reason.  I'd rather get used to this one than try installing something else.

I did a factory reset of my Nexus 7 for the fun of it.  I think Clean master was causing problems so I'm going to avoid installing it again and see how it runs.

I hope it remembers where I left off in Family Guy: The Quest For Stuff or I'm going to be pissed.

Well that was interesting.  :twak:

I got the OTA Lollipop update on my Nexus 7 a few days ago.  I had a bunch of freezing problems, although the N7 ran great when it wasn't frozen.  ::)

The freezing got so bad last night, I did a factory reset.  Which kept freezing at various points along the reset.  Finally getting to the point of "restoring", it didn't.  It ran for 9 hours but never really progressed so I did ANOTHER factory reset from Recovery mode.  I skipped EVERY recovery option, just trying to get an operational N7.

It's back up, but now I can't recover from my Google backup.  :ahhh

So...I'm adding back apps as I remember them.  :-\

Oh well, at least it's running again.

If you to to my apps in play store, there should be a "installed" and "all" list, the latter records everything you've ever installed on that account so you can pick from there. But you don't get app data back unfortunately, which I don't think google's backup restores anyway.

...and repeat freezing.  freezing.  freezing... :viking:

Factory reset and now I'm running with only 2 installed apps.  From what I can discern online, it must be some app conflict, but I have no idea what it is.  Something doesn't like Lollipop though.

There is a way, but I think I'd have to root the device.  If the problem is one app that is non-vital, then I'll go that way.  If it's the app that syncs my calendar (or is the e-reader for the local public library) then I'll look into flashing the old firmware.  :-\

I have Slacker up and running with no freezing.

I'm beginning to think it's the Classical Music radio app I've been using.

I'll let this run for a day or two, and if it doesn't freeze, then I have my likely culprit (I suspect it's conflicting with Slacker somehow.)

Yeah mine is still flakey from time to time, even with the 5.0.2 update and a factory reset.

My biggest beef is when it's chrome/browser that's acting up or the task manager. No such problems on my Nexus 4, but I'm sure the better processor and ram make all the difference.

I gave up on the chrome/Firefox browsers for mobiles, to buggy and bloated. Been using UC browser for a couple of months now and couldn't be happier.

Was it causing freeze ups?  Maybe I'll try that if this continues.

Chrome was a memory hog and Firefix crashed at least twice a day, especially on larger pages.

I hadn't reloaded the Clean Master and I was still getting crashes.  I'm trying the Classical radio app again but with Chrome disabled and using UC Browser to see if that works better together.  If Chrome is a memory hog, it may have been a big part of the problem.

Well, I reinstalled the classic music radio and when I moved to a different WiFi network, the Nexus 7 froze solid.  I guess it's gone for good
