You would think they would heavily test that exact thing way before releasing the product.

Anyone who thinks they've made an idiot-proof object just hasn't met the right idiot.
Alternately, if you make an idiot proof object, the world will create a better idiot.

I would think it should be designed to never do that!  What a total smurfing fail!

Err... I do not understand

Does the lock fail causing the blade to close up?

Or does the blade retention system fail causing the bade to be "released"?

Looks like they used a standard frame lock but then covered it with that plastic shell placing a button on the shell that contacts/presses the lock for you. The problem I would guess is that the plastic is soft enough that with the right direction of force it compresses and twists just enough to release the lock.

But then I'm just guessing from photos.

That sounds about right Noa Isumi.

Yes, you can take the knife guards off and on all day. The design is supposed to lock the blade permanently to the Leap once installed. It would appear that the knifes are not so permanent after reading the recall, meaning you can remove them in certain circumstances once installed.

I am not going to try this with any of the ones I have, as I want the blades installed away from the Leap in their carriers for the collection.

Hm, the sad part is we mentioned it several times in various Leap threads as a potential hazard long before it was officially released. :-\

Now I really wish I had bought one to play with.  DAMMIT.

Yes Steve is our best bet for info, unless Tosh has installed his blade?

Its not a fault, its a feature.

To be able to remove the blade again if you are untrustworthy.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.
