It could be very quick if you get dismissed in the first group. Fingers crossed.

I don't think I could do it. Well, maybe if it pays real good.

If you are chosen you make $40 a day and can receive $50 a day if the case goes over 45 days.

Is that instead or in addition to your regular salary?

What got me out of jury duty was turning up in a suit, looking smart with a copy of the Telegraph, I wasn't selected and was sent home  :D

This was the case for me when I had it a couple years or so ago.  I got paid for my time off, but had to turn over the "earnings" from jury duty to my employer.  Trust me, I got the better deal there ;)

This is what happened with my hubby, who just had jury duty recently. He was only being paid $10 a day, so... yeah, much better deal for him.

I always kind of wonder why they don't offer unemployed people the option for jury duty. $10 a day is still $10 better than $0 a day. And it's not like they're missing work to be there.

I've been called for jury duty twice.

Once I sent them back a nice letter saying I would normally say yes but I would be in my final semester of college and would they please not delay my graduation. They were ok with that

The more recent time, they were looking for people who would be in the pool for a murder trial. They'd moved the trial from my hometown to the other end of the state, where I am now. I said quite honestly that the victim had been a friend of my mother, and the suspect had gone to grade school with my little brother and was a creepy little smurf then, still was, and that I was not surprised he'd killed a woman and I wouldn't be surprised if it was other that weren't known about.

They said my services weren't needed.

Dealing with the better educated and more socialized portion of that population with my 9-to-5, I have to say, there is no socio-economic group that I want LESS on a jury.

I did it a couple of years ago. I had no job at the time so I was quite happy to do it. I got paid travel allowance as well. Also our food was all specially catered (and really nice!) as our city centre got destroyed by a few thousand earthquakes.

On the first day I came home saying "Man, this is nothing like on TV". The next day I was saying "Man, this is better than TV!". It was a fraud case involving vintage farm machinery, a VW Kombi, racehorses, a homosexual affair and Irish gypsies!
