New cycle-truck/cargo-bike!
on: November 21, 2014, 08:21:44 PM
Hey all...

I decided to buy my Christmas present to myself early... a Soma Fabrications "Tradesman" cycle-truck cargo bike!

The frame arrived a couple of days ago, and the wheelset and kick-stand arrived just this morning!

The head tube is too long for my headset press, so I'm taking it to a shop next weekend to have the headset installed, and I'm going to have them install a bottom bracket for the crankset I'll be using as well.

I have a new set of TRP Spyre mechanical disc brakes on order that are going to go on my Soma Double Cross which is my daily commuter bike, and the BB7 Roads that are on it are going to go on the Tradesman.

If all goes well, I should have it completed and ready to ride in about two more weeks! :D

Here's a pic of the frameset, wheelset, and the kick-stand. This also includes the cargo deck, which I won't bolt on to the frame until the bike is built.

Weird. I just watched a bunch of videos on cargo bikes. Great idea, I think. Is this the long back/small back tire setup?

Also... Heinz! We miss you! Post more!

Got some more done on it... just need to install the derailleurs and chain, then wire everything up... I will be putting a big Wald 157 basket on the cargo deck, and fitting it with panniers well.

Okay, I don't know WTF is up with photobucket now... but I can't seem to link to the image.

I'll let you know when I get it finished... :)

I'll be ordering cables and housings and a basket for the cargo deck next weekend. I should be able to finish building it over New Year's weekend.

Cool!

My flatmate has a Mezzo folding commuter bike. Very small front wheel, with the stem extending about six inches ahead of the steerer tube. He loves it,I find it an evil handling death trap

Back to topic: Cool Ride!
And off topic in my own interest again:
I do work as a Janitor in different (42) houses and use my bike to get from one to another, taking my private car if I need to haul many tools, a ladder or carry away some junk. Right now I´m negotiating with my boss about maybe buying an electric powered (pedelec) cargo bike.

As a Pro regarding bikes, would you rather take a single track bike with the load area in the middle or a 3 wheeler with a big box between the front wheels? I would like to be able to use this bike in my free-time, too to do shopping and on my way to work to ride my son to Kindergarten/Granny (I a few months, he´s too young right now).

For example:

3 wheeler

It's an old joke going back to the days of the Mach 1 Thomas :tu:

I'm not sure what he's called in the German translations of Team Joe Bar,but in English, the young lad on the Triple is called Jimmy The Hinge  :D

I know about that and I know about the lacking suspension of 70s Kwaks - I just thought you could use a Twak for disrespecting my favourite Japanese Motorcycle maker...  ;)

I do like the Joe Bar comics - Some of those are oh so true...
