Spartan Parts Kit
on: November 27, 2014, 12:13:21 AM
Hope the pics work. I stopped into the Vic store at Mall of America last week and to my surprise, I found that they actually sold Spartan parts kits. Instead of having to hem assemble it, they boxed up all the parts including the pins and brass bushings.  Because I bought it as parts, they swap in a main blade etched with "Self Assembled", which means that Vic won't honor the warranty. If you have the knife assembled in the store, they use a regular blade and the warranty applies. Thought this might be of interest here.  Cost was $39 + $3 for black scales.

Interesting about the blade stamping, but it makes sense.  Thats pretty neat they do that though.

Nice in the frame. How long have they been selling like this?

Because I've done mods I was all over the kit. I'll probably never assemble it.  Most people seemed to opt for having their Spartan assembled in the store on the machine. You can buy the parts kit and give it as a gift. The recipient of your gift can take it to the store and have it assembled for free. They will put in a regular non marked blade at that time.

They do not make Spartans anymore?

Or is this something for someone who likes to tinker?

Very neat either way. Can this be had mail order?

Those kits are thought of as gifts - You gift them and teh recipient takes them to the VIC shop and assembles his very own Spartan.
If you assemble a Spartan in the Shop (at least here in cologne) they take parts out of the drawers.
The blade in the kits is not marked, afaik. Must have to do with different warranty regulations/laws across the earth.

The Spartan is of course still made.
The Kits are available for 29,- € here, IIRC and do amke a nice gift for any SAK collector, although I doubt they would most likely not put it together.

You are not allowed to build other knives than the Spartan in the Shops. Maybe, if the clerk is in the right mood and not many customers around, I will have the chance to build a different 2-layer SAK on the machine, if I bring parts and don´t tell anyone. I think I´ll have to further establish my status as aregular customer there. I did help a few customers and even initiated a sale there, though...

Would be cool to be able to make your own knife.

Als you could use some of the parts for your own build and not have to worry about messing something up when you drill out the pins.

Honestly if I am going to carry a Pioneer I would just go Alox.

See what I did there?

Is anyone going to stop by there? If so, would someone be able to pick one up for me?

I'm interested in getting a set as well. It will look great in my living room... Any idea where to order online?
