Source for 4oz and 8oz peening hammers in Canada?
on: November 27, 2014, 01:11:59 AM
Hi all. I am thinking (and just thinking, right now) about trying my hand a modding a SAK...

Can anyone recommend a Canadian (ideally Toronto area) source for 4oz and 8oz hammers to peen the brass pins?

Failing that, an ebay seller located in Canada?

Thanks!

Jewelry supply stores should have them.

I buy from Gesswein, and they are in TO.

Personally I use 2oz and 4oz.
8oz is actually a bit big. Much better control with the smaller size.

4oz ball pein is enough for me, though a small 2oz ball pein could be good for the two middle pins on SAKs.

The other thing you need is a decent dolly/riveting block/bucking bar. Almost a mini anvil.

I use the fixed jaw on my bench vice as an anvil but a rivet dolly or two would be handy to have.

Thinking of tackling some mods myself. Thought starting with some 58mm classics first would be the way to go as I have a bunch I would like to take scissors out of and make up some Rogues. Is it better to start bigger first though? Do you still use the ball end to peen into the brass collar? I'll need to buy some hammers too

I scored a nice 4oz'er at my local Canadian Tire. If you can frequent one regularly and aren't in a rush, you can grab them for stupid-good sale prices.

Great, I'll keep my eyes out at the Tire, otherwise Gesswein looks perfect.

Many thanks for the help everyone.

And an old lump/sledge hammer can be used for an anvil if you don't have anything else
Everything’s adjustable
