How sharp is sharp enough for you?
on: November 27, 2014, 08:24:40 PM
I was thinking about this last night when I was sharpening a multitool, the Ozark Trail tool from Walmart. I got it a lot sharper than I thought I was going to be able to. It was cutting thin receipt paper, and newspaper with ease.

Not quite shaving sharp, though.

But I never care to make my blades shaving sharp. I see no need.

So, how sharp do you like your carry blade?
Cut paper? Shaving sharp? Vorpal? Able to split atoms? Able to sever a 'silver cord'? So sharp it could sever a teen girl's love of her favorite boy band? (Note: that last one has never been achieved in all of human history).

so sharp that even with an electron microscope the edge looks smooth.

dont they call that in SciFi mononuclear edge or something?

besides, a sharp knife is safer than a dull one.

We must be on the same wavelength.

Very well, we can carry on this discussion in Freaver's thread, since he got to it first.

Hair popping sharp or it's not sharp to me. Not necessarily shaving sharp, but needs to clear the hairs off my arm without taking a bunch of skin.

Even my 58mm SAKs are hair popping sharp. To bad SAKs wont keep that edge long. =(
