BIG swiss army knife questions
on: November 28, 2014, 09:10:14 AM
Are there any aftermarket and/or replacement scales available for the RangerGrip knives?

Are there any one handed 111mm Vics with plain blades? I'd love a Nomad, but I hate serrations.

Thanks!

Sam

I saw the one handed sentinel grip dual density with corkscrew when I got my Nomad but its is half serrated.
You are absolutely right that it will be a winner if it had a plain edge.

And if he doesn't have it, ask him.  He might be able to special order it :tu:

I don't remember ever seeing Ranger scales sold separately before but maybe now that the Rangers are sold by and branded by Victorinox they will become available. :tu:

The Hunter XS and Hunter XT have plain OH blades. However they also have a OH serrated gutting blade.

The Trekker would be okay. I would love a non-serrated Nomad. The 111mm's are already pretty thick, I don't want any thicker than absolutely necessary.

I'd also love to have thinner grips for the Rangergrip 61.... *AND* be able to use the bit driver... I'm just a little nervous about drilling into my grips.

Yo

I'm in a very similar space here in interests - non serrated; one handed openers; efficient.

On the 111mm front, I have noted:

One Handed Trekker Non Serrated - both camo and black colours available
Dual Pro X
Hunter XS/XT

I need the bottle opener/can opener combination, so have been taken by the Dual Pro X and OHT NS. Between the two, the Dual Pro X had the interesting belt cutter and a total of three locking tools, which was cool. However, few uses seemed to appear for the belt cutter.

The OHT NS has the woodsaw instead, which still remains my least used tool, but also has the tweezers and toothpick. So in the end I have the OHT NS in both the black and camo forms, and this is currently the peak of SAK's for me. The black one is my forum picture.

A one handed Centurion would be my ultimate two layer 111mm SAK. Not far behind would be, yeh, a NS one handed Nomad. This takes us back to that whole corkscrew argument lol. I have a Centurion but missed the one handed opening functionality too much, so went back to the OHT NS.

In recent investigations, I think the OHT was about the same weight as a RangerGrip 61. The extra size on the RangerGrip seems to mean a two layer RangerGrip weight is similar to a three layer 111mm.
