It looks like it would be a lot better to ride downhill than up.

I think you'd want to be careful on the brakes with that grinding wheel in front of the saddle.   :o

In Portugal it was usual to see such bikes. It was used by what we called "amoladores" (basically "sharpeners"). Men used to go from place to place, shapening knives, scissors, agricultural tools and also mending umbrellas. They used a pan's pipe to announce themselves and a shout of "Aaaaa... molador!" to bring people out of their houses with whatever needed sharpening/fixing.

I take my hat off to these guys.
BTW anyone else notice the rear tyre in the 2nd PIC - it looks completely flat.
I don't claim to know it all, but what I do know is right.

It reminded me of an old window cleaner who cycled round with ladders on his shoulder (parallel to the bike) he only had one arm!

My partner also knew of him as did my father - not seen him for years - he was a real local character!!

I love learning about old tools and the trades that go with them.
And that is an awesome tool, thanks for sharing. :tu:

I completely agree.

Its neat to see what tradesmen resort to to get a day work in.
