One holder for LM Bit Kits
on: December 04, 2014, 07:31:54 AM
I wanted a 1 piece holder for all the 19 pieces in the LM bit kit. Not being able to find one online, I modeled one myself.

I am yet to get it printed (my 3D printer is out of action )

It is only 2mm thicker than the standard one, and is 17mm shorter...

There is a bit more tidying up to be done, but that's the basic concept.

What does everyone think?

(Excuse the strange look on the screenshot - the graphics in my CAD program were playing up )

Looks great to me.

I bet it will hold the bits better too.

Thanks for the positive words, JA and Cap'n.

Hopefully the printer will be running tomorrow, and I can test it!  :ahhh

It looks great!
Do you plan on using the hole in the top, or is it just kopied from the standard bitholder?

I might put it on shapeways if there's enough interest.

The hole is copied, but some people may for some reason want to string it on some paracord or something...

If someone has some suggestions, I'd be glad to hear, before I print one.

Lose the paracord hole :D
It would be even more compact.

Brilliant - Brilliant
Shorter but wider - and takes all the bits - uber  8) - Does it also include the eyeglass sd?

Couple of points:
  • I have a Wave leather sheath and it takes one regular holder - but would not take this
  • If this holder is in your car, Skinth, drawer at home, toolbox - It makes perfect sense - Not quite so if on your belt, in pocket, or in regular sheath??
  • Do you really need to carry a full set of imperial (or American - as our USA friends call it!!) and metric hexes
  • I made one set up for the regular holder for edc with toryx, metric hex and one set of cross head sds - which covers most requirements - missing out the largest and smallest bits in some cases
[/list]

I used to carry both cards but as well all know it can be a tight fit in the Nylon sheaths.  I like the concept and like the lanyard hole at the top since I use it to retrieve my card out easier.

Is there some way to print the bit size on the top of the card?  I have painted mine so I can better read the size.  Obviously with use I know instinctively what bit to grab but it would be a neat feature IMO.

It also serves as a pull tab, but removing it is not difficult - even after its printed  :D

Yep, includes the eyeglass driver.

  • Which Leather sheath is that? the one with 1 side in elastic? Those are really tight. I have a few here, and I doubt I'd fit even a single bit kit. It's hard enough to do the flap up!
  • ???
  • Yes Sir! The one you don't have, you will need.

I will pt some text in as an experiment, and see how it turns out.

This bit extender? http://www.leatherman.com.au/accessories/product/Bit_Driver_Extender

T-Shank blades exactly like these? http://www.leatherman.com.au/accessories/product/Surge_Replacement_Saw_and_File

If so, can you get me accurate dimensions for the blades? I have one of the extenders.

Update:

A few versions later (trying to get the hole size right is not easy).

We're nearly there.

JA, I would send it to you if I was in the US! Postage here is wickedly expensive.

Its only 6 bits for the purpose of testing the fit. Once I have the fit right, I'll print the full 21 bit one.

I'll keep you all updated!
