I'm torn

Well I have been having the urge to get a new light, but i'm torn between two. The two are the Maglite ML300L and the Fenix LD41. I wanted the Fenix because of its high output and because it runs on AA's. I was looking around at other lights in the price range and output and found the new (to me) Maglite ML300L. 625 Lumes, 406m throw! I love the Maglites run times as well. 16 hours at 625 Lumes. 117 hours on Eco mode which is around 58 Lumens if I remember correctly. The Fenix is realistically only looking at 1-1.5 hours on high. I was all set on the LD41, but just came across the Maglite and am second guessing it. I do have the last generation of the Maglite 3-D cell and love it, but do not use it a lot because of its size. That is why I was looking into the Fenix. I do love the throw on the Maglite I already own though. To add to everything I want a Fenix E25 and E05 just for kicks.  Anyways what do you guys say?

I'm not concerned about looks. While the Fenix does have a awesome look to it I like both designs (look wise) equally.

If you already have a 3-D cell Mag, it would make sense to add a different format, and keep the old one around on standby.  And you should probably get at least the E05 with it

Very true. If I bought the new maglite it would dethrone my other one......... If I did do that I could banish the old Maglite to the car though.  I guess I could do that anyways if I get the Fenix. So much to think about!

I own a few Fenix lights and they have been great, but the more I look into their warranty it makes me worried. Thier warranty is decent, but the problem is the only way to get warranty work done would be to ship the light to China which I would not want to do and probably would not do. Maglite offers a lifetime warranty. I really do want the Fenix, but Maglites warranty (which I have used before) is awesome. I just do not want to spend $70 on a flashlight with basically no warranty. I can get the Maglite for cheaper and have it covered for life.  So much to think about.

I am leaning towards the Maglite more and more. The only thing stopping me is that I already own a Maglite 3-D cell. The new model is flipping sweet though. So much more power and throw its insane.

instead of the LD 41 you may try the Starry light SA-22.That way you can save some money
I have the BLF edition but the regular one is also good.

You can sometimes find them by searching for "3rd generation" instead of the ML300 designation. I just ordered mine from BrightGuy for a good price.

A few anecdotes about these two choices though... The Maglite apparently has a redesigned tube with shallower threads, which has caused trouble for some reviewers breaking under stress... On the other hand, there's a thread on CPF right now about contact problems on the Fenix's battery carrier causing the mode switch to not work correctly (Fenix is sending out replacements). So pick your poison. :-) I was facing the question of these two lights myself, and decided I'd rather have the Maglite, mostly because the Fenix would make me want to start down the rabbit hole of Eneloops and smart chargers, and I just can't afford that right now! :-D

Thank you for the info. What kind of "stress" is causing trouble for the Maglites? What sort of contact problems are affecting the Fenix?

I was leaning away from the Fenix as they are a Chinese company and the warranty would basically be useless to me since I would have to send it to China for warranty work if need be, but I came across this. Any input on this would be appreciated. It seems as though a outside company is warrantying Fenix lights for life out of Colorado. I believe they are working directly with Fenix.
