The awl has to be messed with for it to fit on a Wave?

Yes, by about 1mm that needs to be 'shaved' off the top arch. Otherwise the pliers head interferes with it on closing the handles leaving an unsightly gap between the handles.

Strangely enough, I prefer this thin-profile awl look to the original one.  ::)

I like the slimmer version of the awl too! :D and there's certainly some satisfaction to be had when you do another test fit and the handles close nicely without that gap. ;)

really nice work on this mod... I love the way it turned out! :tu:

just out of curiosity -- do the handles have a different texture to them now? I had the handles cerakoted for one of my Wave mods, and I really liked the feel of the handles after cerakoting.

Breeze you have any extra Rebars laying around?  :pok:

Thanks M  :tu:

The awl now reminds me of the SAK awl a little bit, not that I was going for that look but it turned out that way in the end.

The texture is now actually very smooth, silky even. After the initial acid treatment the feel is rough, almost sandpaper 1000 grit like. However, stone washing process de-burrs the edges a little and smooths out the surface, so it's almost slippery on touch now   :)

very cool. :tu: hopefully it doesn't slip right out of your hands... it would be a shame to lose that beauty. :)

are you after the head or the guts? ;) I have several Rebar corpses around here in various stages of disassembly. :D

I try to stock up on Rebars whenever I see them at a discounted price, but I don't think I have any extras right now.

You know the usual suspects, head and awl.

Looking to have someone cough you do the conversion when I get back to the states early next year. Just getting the parts together for now so no rush on it.

Very nice :tu:

What's the effect of skipping the acid bit and just chucking the wave into a rumbler machine?
We have 4 at work each with different sized stones.

Am I correct in thinking it will just come out flat matt grey??
I don't claim to know it all, but what I do know is right.

That really came out nice.  Not a fan of the tool load out, but that look is spectacular.

So, could you do the blades as well? Obviously an extreme resharpening would need to be done and the file probably couldn't be dipped.

But is it possible without major damage?

Wouldn't do that if I were you, but that's just me.
The finish is likely to be uneven with tumbled effect showing more on some areas and less on others. It also depends on the type and size of the tumbling media used.
However, I would never do that to the blades as well as other tools still attached to the scales  8)
For best results the tool should be disassembled and all the tools and blades removed.

Not worth it IMO, but do feel free to try :-)

I prefer the original tumbled/brushed blade finish done by LM  ;)

I think orange cerakoted scales with the stonewash tools and blades would look pretty cool.
