Hello from the Finger Lakes of Upstate NY!
on: December 21, 2014, 04:42:42 AM
Hi there! I was browsing around researching where I could find a certain SAK I used to have, and lost, and found this place. It looked like a great place to play knifey-spoony and talk acquisitions. :D

I've carried a SAK in my pocket for almost 30 years, since I was a wee Cub Scout who bought one at Day Camp from the BSA store because, well, if MacGyver had one...  ;) From then on I've usually had a Tinker in my pocket, but I switch it up now and then. I've lost some (like my poor Pioneer Harvester), gave some away (lots of Tinkers and Classics), and even broken a couple (doing things no one should do with a knife, I'm ashamed to admit).

Suffice to say, I'm looking forward to perusing the entire forum and meeting and talking to you folks, especially the Swiss Knights. As far as other knives go, I like other European blades, especially Swedish, Finnish, Norway, and the like. Yes, Moras, but also Martinni, Kellam, Roselli, Helle, etc.

As for what I do, well, I'm an antique/collectible/stuff dealer. Fourth generation. I write some, doodle a lot (I have a thing for mechanical pencils as well), paint a little, and like solitaire board games.

So, uh, nicetameetcha.

Tinkers are the perfect knife, IMO, but I love all my SAKs (not that I have a lot! but that's changing).

Whats next on the list of SAK's you want? Are you into alox? I know you said you had a Harvester before, but was it your only alox?

Solving problems you didn't know you had in the most obscure way possible

"And now, it's time to hand this over to our tame race axe driver. Some say, he can live in the forest for six months at a time without food, and he knows of a secret tribe of only women where he is their God. All we know is, he's call the Styx!" - TazzieRob

Whats next on the list of SAK's you want? Are you into alox? I know you said you had a Harvester before, but was it your only alox?

I don't have any alox at the moment, and yeah the Harvester was my only one. I have a Tinker, a Tinker with the harder plastic scales, like you see on the garden knives and larger locking knives - scored that one at a flea market, brand new for $2.

I also have a Hiker, Gardener, Filet knife (technically not a SAK but it cuts fish AND line, so 2 functions!), a Classic or three, and a Day Packer in lime green smoothie.

Next on the list? I like the look of the Spartan with the wood scales. Electrician alox also looks nice, as does the Farmer. I just wish they still made the Harvester. I loved that little curved blade. It was great for opening boxes and stripping bark off sticks for roasting marshmallows and kebabs.

Not yet! Though I'd love one of the old alox Standard Issue with the bail type lanyard thingy. I also like the Patriot.

I'm more towards Hector and the National Forest. The Falls is only about a leisurely 15 minute drive.

Welcome. I'm relatively new here too. It's a great bunch of people, all willing to offer advice and to encourage you to spend your money.
