So I scored some files from the mechanics and am making some progress. Got the phillips and flathead sorted where they will go on the tool but they will not close.

Guessing a good little bit of the back end area needs to be ground off?
WIll not close or will not open all the way?
Yes, the back end of nail piece needs to be grind off a bit.

Both actually. Just need to grind off some more from the nail piece like you said.

Made some good progress tonite and I got it to close but it is still to tight. More grinding needed.

No hurry with this since it gives me something to do while I sit around beautiful Afghanistan.

If you can join the pieces together like i took a picture above, you can quickly get to a better fit. the 'roundness' of the plier is what you are shooting for to be able to have tools work smoothly on that side of the handle...While also having the friction/tension piece in place.

Thanks new guy.

Was kinda thinking that is how it should work. Using a hand file and taking my time but will get there eventually.

Got both drivers to the point where they attach and will open and close. Still need to take more off so the tension is right and they will be in line with the handle.

My apologies if I was missing a big chunk of background in the conversation. Am excited to get into this hobby myself and getting antsy on posting things :) And certain phone apps makes it so easy to post progress pics and rapid replies!

Kampfer - can you walk me through the steps of making that awl? Specifically, when did you stop grinding / start filing / start with the sharpening stone? I still need to figure out the specifics but at some point I want to try making my Wingman blade in to a bigass awl to replace the MUT carbon scraper.  Oh...and i'd like to do it with a Dremel as I don't have a real grinder.

There are no rules, only your preference.
Use a marker to outline the shape of awl you like, grind it down to that shape then give it another grind at 45* angle.
Then sharpen it on a stone.
It would be best if you have an awl from another MT so you can follow.

Just make sure you put the 45* grind on the correct side, all awls on MT are made for right handed person.

Thanks man. That's some impressive response time! I want to canabalize my wingman to make the big awl and then to make a one-arm wingman with the scissor as the main tool. The scissor arm is smaller, but hoping to fit the flathead, clam shell opener shaped  into an awl, file shaped in to a skinny flathead, can opener, and maybe the serrated blade from a Sidekick. That would pretty much be the perfect companion for my Skeletool. Big plans..we'll see if I actually get to any of it.

I like that.
I carry a mod Micra to watch Skulletool's six. It has big scissors, tiny drivers and an awl in a really small package and very little overlap with Sulletool.

Cool micra. Was thinking about trying to make an awl to sit on top of the blade on my Style CS for a similar package, but now leaning towards the one arm Wingman instead.

Took a shot at making a skeletool companion tool. The awl needs a bit more sharpening and we'll see how much use this ends up getting.  A fun way to kill a couple of hours for sure. The knife, flat head and phillips are in the other arm and will probably live in the shed.

What's the little stubby ?

It's a little prybar made out of the can opener. A lot of the leatherman one piece prytools seem to have the little piece that sticks out past the rest so figured I'd do it too.

Few more photos:
It is a handy little tool, carrys well in pocket with clip.
The medium flat head driver has been thinned out a bit for better fit.

Nice work Kam :tu:
