Buck "Spa Treatment"
on: January 02, 2015, 11:27:15 PM
I recently received a Buck 110 and a Buck 112 in a trade and will be sending them in to Buck for a "Spa Treatment." I did not plan to do this, but figured what the heck. I wan't to see what the service is all about. Its actually just the sharpening service, but I have heard they clean the knife and polish the bolsters. Their is a little bit of staining on the bolsters with some scratches and pitting. The tip of the blade on the 112 is busted and it has some rust. It is supposed to take 6-8 weeks so it is a little bit of a wait, but beggars can't be choosers. I took some before pictures and will take some after pictures and post them here once the long wait is over.

Before pictures.

I'll be interested to see the results. I have a 112 Ranger with finger groves from 1980-81.

Looks like your 110 was made in the 1974-80 years and the 112 was from 1981-1986 era

I got a buck tool with a broken blade I'm not sure what to do with.

I doubt that they still have parts.

What do you think I should do with it captain.

I have no problems paying for it to be fixed.

I just doubt they can fix it.

First thing I would do is just call them and ask. You might get a answer you are not expecting and make things real easy. If not then you know it is not a option and you can go from their.

Cap, do you use a dedicated camera or your cell phone for your pics? You always seem to easily take very close up and detailed photos of your toys. :tu:

Don't own a cell phone. Funny enough I use a old, crappy, point and shoot I bought probably 7 years ago. Its so crappy it doesn't even work half the time and I have to hit it to get it working again. I have been wanting to save up for a decent camera with a super Macro mode.

Wow. I really need to start using my camera more. My cell phone, while capable of taking quality pics, the focus goes all sorts of bat smurf crazy when you get that close to objects.

Regardless, nice pictures.

If you do not have a Macro setting you will not be able to get close detailed pictures.

The worst part is the wait!

I sent my ALX back to leatherman and they took like 6 days to process it once it arrived. I'm not sure if they replaced it or fixed it!

Hopefully Buck will be quicker!

I can't imagine the setup line they have for sharpening.

Well wait time is stated (for this time of year) to be up to 2 months.

Oh I'm aware, I'm impressed it only took 6 days!

Gerber took a little longer.

In fact I literally JUST found another bent MP600ish  old school gerber that I'm gonna have to send off. It will be interesting to compare the wait time

I used to do a lot of those spa treatment on Buck knives in the Netherland some years ago.
Sometimes it was just a good sharpening job and a bit of brass polishing, but many times it involved changing out the old blade (or what was left of it) for a brand new one, complete with new pivot pin, new bronze bushing, and in some cases a new spring element.
Mostly on the 110, 112, 560, and the odd 186 model.

Well I checked my mail today and had a little box waiting for me. I didn't order anything.  Opened it up and what do you know. My Buck 110 and 112 I sent in for a "spa treatment" had returned. The 112 had a broken tip as well. Refer to the pictures in the first post for how they looked before. Sorry I did not get detailed pictures on these right now. I just took a few real quick to let you guys know I got them back.  :tu: 51 day turn around time.
