True Utility gear.
on: January 04, 2015, 01:52:13 PM
Here is a thread about the True Utility gear I was able to find at a local CAA office. CAA is Canadian Automobile Association. If you belong to them, you can call them for any roadside assistance needed. It is a great organization to belong to as they will give you a tow, fix a flat, etc. They also offer plenty of traveling amenities as well. I was fortunate to have had to go to their office to pay off my latest membership fees (I usually do it by mail), and stumbled upon some True Utility items.

1. The TelePen. A little telescopic EDC pen who's only downfall i can see, are the tiny refills. They do give you 3 extras, and I am certain more can be bought online.

2. Compact MicroLite. Not much to say about this one. Powered by 4 little pill style batteries, and features 3 LEDs.

3. KeyTool. Wraps around a small sized key, and gives you some functionality for no practical wasted space.

4, CashStash. Ummm ok. I thought this might make a great little pill carrier, but apparently it is for storing a limited amount of paper money. My issue with this, who is going to wrap and un-wrap their cash on a daily basis. I see this more as an emergency fund holder than anything else.

5. MiniDriver. Now this is a neat idea, and very compact. You can use any common coins to give you that needed torque. The MiniDriver holds 2 double ended driver bits. This is one sweet design.

I have the cash stash on my keys with £20 inside. Have used it several times over the years when I have forgotten my wallet.

I can see it would be perfect for emergency funds...I just got annoyed unwrapping and wrapping the paper shipped with the product.  :D

Can the clasp be used on the mini driver if you don't have a quarter?

Here in Australia, we have ridiculously large coins.  Much prefer the USA/Canadian or NZ shrapnel to our own

I feel the exact same way.

Nothing  calms my mind better than messing with a new multitool, light, knife etc .

I like knowing all there is to know about the tools I use.

Back  on topic

I've been using the same true utility clips on my little key chain lights and sak's for about 5 years and they still work great.

Really like that tele pen, would it be too thin in hand to write?

They're fine for jotting the odd note, but you wouldn't want to write an essay with one  :D I quite like several of their offerings actually. The telepen, minidriver, eyeglass, twistick, slimclips ... however some other items are utterly horrendous such as the scouting knife I got removed from an official online scout shop because the quality of the one I bought (and every other one they had in store) was so bad it was dangerous

I knew a girl, years ago, that caused a stink because they kept the football magazines in the men section of the newsagent, forcing them to move it to the general interest section...  :)
Kelly: "Daddy, what makes men cheat on women?
Al : "Women!"

Cute video commercial for a True Utility FIXR, a carabiner multitool:

I've not seen this tool before and could not find it on their web site.

Thanks Chako - I've just picked up one of the mini drivers for my keychain.  Seems like a nicely made piece of kit but a little awkward to use.  Good enough for emergencies, I guess.  Hopefully the bits in the hex end will stay in place in my pocket.

There's a newer version of the pen.  http://www.amazon.ca/True-Utility-TU256I-TelePen-Ivory/dp/B00AHSSNZO/ref=pd_sim_lg_36?ie=UTF8&refRID=1YANG5JGSV8H8VMDSJSG   This is the one I have.  It's slightly longer and has better ergonomics.  You grip the thick end instead of the thin end.

I have CoinStash (which is handy for carrying emergency bus fare), ArcKnife, BeltKnife and ReCoil rectractable key"chain". All in all handy tools in their own right, but the hard plastic containers they came in... priceless =D My EDC first aid kit lives in one of those and EDC "survival" kit in another. They fit nicely in my backpack side pouch so I have them with me every day.

Don't know it's there, so, success!  8)

Almost got the Mini driver but realized the Skeletool is there for that, same with the corkscrew.....till I remembered I don't (almost never) drink wine  :P
