gerber warranty question
on: January 09, 2015, 12:12:01 AM
Hi guys,
I have an old mp600 blunt nose that my grandpa gave me that is in need of repairs (damaged wire cutters). As it is from my grandpa it holds sentimental value for me but the tool isn't very useful in its current state.  I have heard that gerber often send a new tool as well as the repaired old tool in cases like this but that the mark the old tool with a scratched in "X". Do you guys know if they  scratch the x onto the face of the tool or do they hide it inside the handles.  I'd like to keep this tool nice as a keepsake and a big old X carved into it sounds less than awesome.
Thanks for your help.
Warm regards,
Matt

As you are in the US, I would suggest phoning/emailing them and talking to them directly. The other thing you might be able to do is source a replacement head from one of our modders here and do a swap yourself, that way you have full control of what happens to it. Is anything else damaged on it?

Everything else is in quite good condition so finding a replacement head might be the way to go. I'll try calling Gerber to see what they have to say. Thanks for your advice 50ft!

Calling with be a quick answer.

When you fill out a warranty card, they ask you if it holds sentimental value.

They also state what exactly you may want repaired.

If you just swap the head out it is quite easy to do yourself.  :tu:

+1

As it has sentimental value for you, doing this guarantees you keep this particular tool, it can't get lost, accidentally swapped etc

If you just want to get it back to work, I can send you a plierhead (only Needlenose, I´m afraid)
The german Warranty department did send out replacements in the 2 cases I used their service (They replaced my fiskars Multiplier for a Multiplier which was replaced with a Multilock) but that was at least 10 years ago.

i traded a guy at work for his broken Octane. Of course the blade stop failed and now has a floppy blade, and since it was his only tool he was still trying to use it. It was bugging me every time he would break it out, so i gave him a mp 600 that i had in my lunch box, in trade for his octane. It is un repairable. So since its a discontinued tool, do you think theyd fix it? or if replaced, then what with, what is comparable, to an octane?

Also Matt2silver, did you ever find the plier head for your pinchy?
