one thing to mention -- I've noticed recently that there seems to be more variation in the Rebar plier heads than there was when the Rebar first came out. the first few mods I did, the scissors interfered with the Rebar plier head every single time, but all the other internal tools were fine.

the last couple mods that I've done have been more interesting. I actually had one that rubbed against the large flat driver as well, and another one that required me to reshape the can opener, of all things.

I'm not sure what the tolerances are on these plier heads. I'd be surprised if your scissors actually fit in there without any grinding/reshaping, but it's certainly possible that you got a plier head that plays nicely with the scissors.

@Breezy12 - there's something about that, for sure. I just briefly checked 4 of my Rebar pliers and the one from 2014 definitely isn't as needle-nose as the other 3 from 2012, it's slightly 'stumpier' for lack of a better word. But you really need to look for it, it's not something easy to notice even side-by-side.

Cheers.

Looking into the confusion about the reassembling problems, I was wrong about the copper washer placement when putting my WAVE back together. Sorry tinkering2much and zoidberg. The plus is I get to take something apart again :D
iT ain't broke till I fix it.....

Breezy, coincidentally the other tool that my plier head is rubbing against is the can opener. I might have to thin the can opener with the dremel. The scissors keep the handle from closing by just a hair. I'll take some pics tomorrow when sunlight will help with pics.

There must be variances, from my reading I was expecting more interference from the scissors.

Babola, I'm not sure I'm up to taking this plier head off again. It gave me grey hair the first time lol I'll post pics tomorrow.

Jbw1, its all good man. It ain't broke till I fix it should be my signature lol pics to come
Thank everyone for the advice and patience.

you were not wrong in this assumption. most of the problems encountered with this mod are from the scissors. :salute:

that being said, I'm looking forward to seeing the pics... hopefully we can help you out. :)

thanks for the pics! :tu:

your Rebar plier head appears to be a little on the beefier side. your third pic (handles closed, can opener and flat driver open) shows a gap between the handles that is closer to what I usually see due to the interference from the scissors. the gap in the first pic looks a little bit larger than what I normally see.

my advice would be to carefully grind down the flat driver and can opener to get the clearance you need. (go slowly, and do frequent test fits.) after that, decide if you can live with the gap in the handles due to the scissors. it doesn't bother some people, but it drives my OCD bananas, so all of my mods close completely. :D

grinding/reshaping the scissors will be a little more complicated than the flat driver/can opener, but you can always switch them out for the Rebar awl if you so choose.

any luck on getting the Wave plier head into the Rebar chassis?

I have a similar ocd about closing lol I'm resisting it because I really want to keep the scissors and not grind the head. I'll give the grinding the flat head and can opener a go and see how it closes. The wave head is sitting in the rebar body but the posts are not in properly, I bent the washers so I got to take the wave head off and flatten the washers and polish them( I am NOT looking forward to trying to reinsert the posts because I don't have a vise to hold the head lined up with the handles).

just for reference, here's what my ReCharge scissors look like compared to stock scissors:

the grinding required on an awl is much more subtle. ;)

and in this one, you can kinda see the grinding that I did on the can opener that wasn't playing nicely with the Rebar pliers:

hope this helps! :salute:

I made a little tool to help line up those washers, it's basically a tapered cone to line up the washers when pressed into the pivot hole, kind of like a drift. :D Hope it works out better on future projects!

If I have to grind the scissors down that much I don't know if there even worth keeping sigh.

I need to come up with something to help align the washers it will save time that's for sure.
