I made a rash decision...
on: January 11, 2015, 03:39:43 AM
I was at the outdoor show today..... Andddddddd I bought a Powertac E3 spur of the moment......

Well it's much stronger and smaller than light I had in its place prior(that the captain despises).

How foolish am I?

No idea. I have absolutely zero experience with that light and had no idea it existed until right now.

You mean I get to further torment you? Then it's already paid for itself buddy!

From what I gathered, I believe the company was started by the owner of Olight. Single AAA, 140 lumen on high, fully waterproof, and compact. It ticked all the boxes I would like and having it in hand sort of pushed me to the impulse buy. Initial reactions are not ones of disappointment.

Sounds like a nice light. Let us know how you get along with it.  :tu:

I'll be interested in how reliable the switching mechanism is over the long term.  Many lights that have a "tighten more for high output" mechanism haven't been particularly reliable with lots of use.  Is this one similar to the Thrunite Ti ?

It's not tighten more for more output, it's three mode that alternates when you loosen then retighten in quick succession. First high, then low, then strobe.

That will probably be more reliable then  :tu:

I just googled powertac e3 flashlight and all the reports I read said it was loose = off, tighten for Lo, then tighten further for Hi (and some examples were very sensitive and often went straight to Hi from off, with Lo being difficult to get).

Hahahahaha, odd . Maybe they realized that wasn't working and switched to the current configuration? It is certainly a solid feeling little light with big output for the size.

Size reference

Crappy, unfocused shot of the back of the head

Front shot of head

Keyring hole

High 140 lumen setting

Low 41 lumen setting

Also, I guess I was wrong and there is also a medium setting. But this setting doesn't really differ a ton from the high setting.

Here's the link to it just because. http://powertacusa.com/E3

Where is the smurfing pocket clip?

Only two modes what kinda smurf is that?

Why would you buy smurf like that you some kinda window licker or something?

I bet you fart in the bathtub and try and bite the bubbles.

How was that better?

Getting away from the abuse of Higgins and back to his new light. ;)

I've not actually come across these before, but it does look like another good offering in the 1xAAA line-up.  IMO it's only a shame that the Low isn't a little lower.

Well I suppose you were at least on topic  But there is a pocket clip! I just won't ever use it. And it will live it's life clipped to my beltloop with an S-biner so I can use it hands-free.

Woohoo, I knew I liked you for some reason. To be honest I would have preferred it be a single mode. The spot this light takes is never one of very prolonged use. More short jobs where the increased output over its predecessor is appreciated.

Like the other night I was using the G10 to track wires under my hood, and the light kept sputtering out. The 140 lumens would have been great compared to the 30 or so finicky ones I had.

Either way I'm looking forward to it and will let you all know how it holds up
