DAY 1: Classic vs. Beer

The day started messy. To make fresh juice I had to slice a pomegranate and oranges. The small blade was to short to reach the center of the pomegranate but it didn't matter it came apart easily.
(Image removed from quote.)

I also used the blade to cut some thick cardboard into shape (needed it to line an envelope to send some CDs to a client). I'm a total beginner when it comes to sharpening, but that thin blade was born to slice :tu:.

Now, I have my Innis & Gunn, opened using the Classic! First, tried to use it as lever but it didn't work (or better: I couldn't do it). I then switched to the car-key-method, where you twist the key (or the nail-file in this case) and it worked like a charm. Like in the video (see my signature) I had to rotate the bottle couple of times.
(Image removed from quote.)
Jeez, man. It's going to be a race to see who wrecks something first.

Man, all I've done in the last two days is open a box at work for a co-worker. I feel inadequate!

I'm 3 minutes late, but I got home and finally got my manager. I'm rocking the 58mm Manager for 30 days :D

Hey, where I live, you're almost two hours early.

Awesome! :climber: Well I carried just my Classic all day today and used the scissors to cut a cigar :D So technically I just switched to the Manager when I got home.

I like the Manager because it sits at a nice 30.x grams. The Alox MiniChamp was my second choice at a hair or two slimmer than the Manager, and only slightly heavier at 39.x grams. A Rambler is basically the same thickness because it doesn't have the pen scale. The Alox MiniChamp is tougher, has a few extra nice tools, and is arguably prettier. The Manager has the sweet  back up pen and the famous small tweezers. I like the classic worn red plastic look with the Manager. The pen sees more use than most toos. I've realized the tweezers are useful for things other than tweezing hair and splinters. Manager for a month!

Here's a funny picture I found on my old iphone that someone on one of these forums made a long time ago.

I'll not leave everything else at home but will swap out all carried SAKs for a Manager.
I will still carry a Leatherman in my bag and a OHO knife or a Skelly.
The functions normally reserved for my Compact SAK will be done with the Manager,

DAY 2: Classic vs. The Nefarious Bottle Cap Gang

Nothing too spectacular today. In the morning it was orange slicing duty again. This is quite messy and a combination of acid and wetness that would make many tools rust ( :pok: LM ) but I doubt my little Classic will be affected by id.
Lever Method: Since I didn't have enough oranges I mixed it with some Chinotto. I tried the lever method again, this time using the flat side (yesterday I tried the small side to be easy on the tool). The file-part gave excellent grip. It bent quite badly but it worked :tu:.

However, I do not recommend this method, as the nail-file clearly is out of shape. Not much, but its there. It was of course easily bent back.

Lighter Method: So for opening the evening brew I went with the lighter method. So far, this has worked best for me.

There is damage to the scale (left), but there is also damage on the other side (right), albeit not as deep. I reckon that if you carry your classic with your keys, you won't be able to tell the damage apart from regular wear.

Glamour shot...of a sapphire Classic , whom has had its scales glued back on, with the blade about 10% gone from sharpening, and undergone a scissor spring replacement. Just opened a sandwich today. Excitement.

At lunch today I somehow found myself standing in front of a peg board of SAKs at the big store with a bullseye, I also somehow managed to convince myself that what I really needed in order to commit to this challenge is a brand new classic to bond with...so, I left with one

When I got back to work I used my old classic that I've been carrying since the start of this challenge to open its replacement

Now that it's free from captivity it has been used at work to break down a couple boxes, open the mail, and to cut butcher paper to cover a bulletin board from a group project this afternoon.

So far I haven't needed anything bigger or more capable, but I am anticipating needing to open a can later this evening and I can't bring myself to use the classic like some of you crazies! Maybe I'll have to break down and buy a real can opener so as not to break the streak!
Looking for a Vic Tourist with a metal HILTI inlay.

Never seen a challenge where the tools we're so abused.

I blame Jothra for setting the tone. Well him or Kirky cause we all know it was Kirky's fault.

Hahahaha!

Win all up in this post.

Hmm what do I have laying around here that I could name Rogueneer? I found on little part of LLST that did not make it into the C-4 pile. Maybe one of the plastic knives from the chow hall?  :pok:

Let me think on it some.

DAY 3: All tools are equal but are some more equal?

Not much to add today. Orange cutting duty in the morning and some slicing.
I also did open a bottle with my Alox MiniChamp (lighter method) to see how much wear it shows on the scale. I would say its hardly visible (this tool has been on my keychain for a while so its a bit beaten (pictures when I have time ;))).

I also decided to make a LM Squirt PS suffer, whenever the Classic has to go through dirt, so has the Squirt (although he won't be doing any jobs, just sit in the goo). To kick it off I put both tools into the dishwasher (as I use the Classic for food, this will be a regular thing, probably every other day). I'm kinda curious how those two hold up with this kind of mis-treatment.

I also noticed that my classic has a screw-pivot in the scissors, which strikes me as odd, especially since the other advertisement classic I got at the same (9th of August 2014) time does not. This makes me wonder how equal 58mm tools are? Are scissors = scissors? Are non-SD and SD nail-files the same?

Some routine nail filing yesterday whilst waiting for the computer to get off its backside but trip to the velodrome today. Will think carefully what my Classic can do to help my usually average performance

Scissors changed in 1992 from screw to rivet.
58mm nailfile (SD or not is only textured). Nail cleaner one used to be crosscut long time ago...

Bettered my lap time at the velodrome. It must've been because my shoes were more comfortable on this trip because my toenails were smoothly filed. Apart from this there was some routine packaging to be opened. All in a Classic days work.
