Is anyone else REALLY picky about nail clippers?
on: January 15, 2015, 04:17:44 AM
I am SO tired of spending 4 to 5 dollars at wally world for the big pair of nail clippers in fancy packaging.

Every time you clip, you apply exsseive force until there is a clang and a shutter down your finger.

Only because the jaws NEVER line up.

Honestly, I have had 2 pairs of good ones within about 50 purchases

The first; the "baby's first" model with the white extra peice of plastic to hold.

The second. This pair of 99 cent clippers. They are wonderful. Small, precise, my favorite color, weigh nothing, if anyone finds any PLEASE do me a favor and pick some up for me

I CANT find them on the interweb  other than a few photos or buying a 75 pack on Alibaba or China direct sales websites.

Note, I don't like any white on my nails. I've ripped too many working on things, or having a drill bit slip and go through your nail, the less material to rip off the better.

Also, they are my#2 tool while fishing, only second to pliers to get hooks out.

I use a set of Wenger Swiss Clippers

Work great and having the scissors and file on hand afterwords is nice.  The fact that I paid $3 for them also helps.

I love my Wenger Clipper. It took me a brief moment to get used to using them, but now its perfection. They are all I use.

To be fair, it's because I just happen to carry a Swiss Army Knife with scissors. Until I started doing that, I bit my nails all the time. Baby steps.

Currently I will have to do with scissors... and it's not Kirkys fault :o

Usually, I use the Victrorinox nail clipper. Costs like $6 and works excellent. Unlike others its rigid and cuts well.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

I am very particular. So particular I use a pair dating from the 70's. They are the best. I guess they just do not make them like they used to because I have tried at various times, different models etc...and I keep going back to that old clipper.

I have tried the Wenger clippers...but those are in my collection and haven't seen the need to buy myself a user to replace the venerable old clipper.

Swiss Clipper is Ok, I actually prefer the 2$ ones that they have up on the counters in a bucket at the pharmacy. And they have a keychain. I'll send a pic of mine after work

I prefer to use big clippers, and the best ones I have were bought when we were in France.  Paid a couple of Euro for them, and they are awesome!

I also have an issue with finding decent nail clippers; I think my current one is an old South Korean-made Revlon pair; I'm still trying to find two decent pairs to throw in my travel kit and my spare box.

A good trick for this is to put you finger tips in some ice water for a few mins too.  Helps slow the blood flow, and it doesn't hurt as much!  :tu:

Should I do that before or after I've got my fingers in the bench vise?

Makes them way less shakey, and the pressure helps!

I think it might be easier before, but you could always experiment and report back.  Just make sure your speech to text is working properly. :D

I'm waiting for a Vic Nailclipper. I have a very old brandless nameless one I use, it's in need of retirement. It doesn't even have the file anymore.

One way to avoid this: cut your nails after a shower (they'll be softer). Also, don't put the full cutting part of the blades over the nails, do it instead like this:

This will create a different resistence along the blades. The parts not touching the nail will come toghether first, making a progressive cut and avoiding the "all-at-once" cut/snap.

With my Vic classic or the Leatherman micra on hand, who needs dedicated nail clippers? They even have a nail file built in on them. Come on boys and girls, this is a multitool forum!!!
