Mp1 Consideration...
on: January 16, 2015, 04:10:34 AM
I am seriously thinking about getting a gerber mp1. Does anyone have any good experiences with it? Also has anyone done a mod on theirs? Thanks ahead of time.

I got one because it was on sale, then I sold it to a member in Germany.

It has been a long time since a Gerber MP1 owner posted comments on this tool.

I am interested in hearing more recent owner reports about the MP1.

Thanks.

If the toolset is enough its really good. I love the springloaded pliers. All the tools are good quality too. It doesn't have much in it, but everything they did put in, works.
It comes to the bit holder usually. If you don't use quarter inch bits, then forget MP1.

Thanks for the comments on the MP1.   I'm still undecided about getting one.

I want to avoid getting another monster sized multitool which is difficult to carry, but doesn't perform any better than the tools I have.

I just ordered one.  If I can pocket carry it I think I will like it.  I'll let you know what I think of it when I get it.

And that's the mark of an old-school veteran here. :)  I look forward to hearing your thoughts on both it and your MP400.

Hi Tom,

One of my favorite threads early on MTO was your EDC Experiments discussion:

Glad you returned so I could say thanks.

You're welcome. I just reopened it. I'm ready to start experimenting some more. There's always something to fix. I really like to think of what I need and how to best accomplish a task.

Yes, it and the next largest size, too.  They are gems.   Got a couple of Knipex plier wrenches, as well, but don't pocket carry them like the smallest Cobra.

I love the video with the guy standing on the little 125. There aren't many multitools I would try that with.

The MP1 is an odd tool.  It doesn't have saws or files a lot of things you'd expect.  It has odd tools like a curved driver/prybar and a utility blade/scraper thingy.  The plier head is also skinny and long which doesn't seem to fit the beefiness of the rest of the tool, plus they already are showing rust in the pivot.  The spring is nice, but the handles are spread wide enough that it doesn't seem necessary.  But it doesn't follow the regular mold of multitools, and that's actually kind of nice for a change.  The locking mechanism is very stiff on mine and difficult to unlock so far, but it looks like they will loosen up.  The blades are really long and have an interesting shape to them.  The G10 scales seemed cheap to me at first, but now I like the grip they afford.  It's a big tool, and I don't see EDC'ing it, but I can think of some house jobs where the tool mix would be handy.

I'm going to skip posting pics since there have already been some good ones posted unless someone has a specific pic they want.
