Serial numbers
on: January 20, 2015, 07:34:29 PM
I just recieved a new in box MP400 today and it a recent production. I've had loads of Mp400's over the years but this new one has a serial number stamped on the handle which matches the one on the box

I also recieved a Gerber Moment folder and that too has a serial number

I'm interested to know are theses numbers model pecific or is each tool and knife now being given individual serial numbers

Thanks  :tu: now we just need someone else with either a new MP600 or MP400 to see if the numbers match. Would be interesting if Gerber decides to individually number all its products.

I've just seen a photo of an MP400 online and it's serial number is 0870914K2

Mine is 0871114K2

Looks like to me Gerber have started to date code their products

Looks like it

So 0871114K2 would be November 2014, 087 maybe made in the USA  (Where was the knife made?) and the last letter and number the model number?

The numbers on the box match those on the MP600 blunt nose tool I bought recently.

My MP400 has a code of 0870214K1.

Perhaps the 'K' denotes the MP400 model.

That wouldn't be the case with the MP400 but could be for other models like the MP600

Yeh but Parnass's MP400 is the same as mine but his end in a 1

I did wonder if it was because his was made in the 1st half of the year and mine 2nd but this doesnt work with the MP600 I've seen , one was made in September but still ended in 1 so I guess that theory doesn't stand up

But the MP400 and 600 both start with 087

Just heard from Gerber. They said "It is just a date stamp, the other numbers are arbitrarily assigned." They also said the label on the box is printed at the same time the tool is engraved so they will match.

Not sure I believe the "arbitrarily assigned" part.
