Possible?
on: January 24, 2015, 11:14:32 AM
Is it possible to put the wingman scissor on a charge, instead of the serrated edge?
I love the big scissor of my surge and want an equivalent on my charge. Are the wingman scissor good enough?

It's been done on a Wave so it should work on a Charge.

They're not the greatest scissors in the world though.

Works on the Wave.  Here's mine:

  You might need to muck about with extra washers on the Charge, if the Wingman scissors are thinner than the blade they're replacing.

The scissors are OK.  Better than the stock Wave ones, not as good a Micra/Style CS.

Yeah i know, but surge one's are too big for a wave/charge.

Maybe some victorinox one's, but it's harder to make.

I'd like to do this too. But I don't have a spare awl to replace the small stock scissors. Any idea if a Wingman clam shell opener could take the place of the small stock scissors on a Wave?

I have seen 91mm SAK scissors on a Wave before.

Someone here was saying the Wingman scissors while ok to start with were much improved with a good sharpening.

Micra/Style scissors are in the running for the best MT scissors of all imo.

Yes, it should fit (thickness is OK) but you'll need to reshape the area around the pivot a bit so you can close the handles completely.

Shhhh, you'll wake Lynn. :D

just so you know -- you'll have to enlarge the pivot hole on the Wingman scissors to do this.

good luck with your mod, and keep us posted with pics! :D

How much do i need to enlarge? I don't have carbide bit, just regular bit or a dremel. That's the main problem with the vic mod, you can put vis scissor but you need a good bit, and it don't close very well.

I already have spare awl to replace the small scissor, just need to buy the wingman scissor or a full wingman.

the Wingman pivots are 3/16", and the plier pivots on a Wave/Charge are 7/32", so it's not much.

I use a 1/8" carbide bit in my Dremel and slowly enlarge the pivot hole, frequently stopping to do a test fit. I'm not sure how well it would work with a regular drill bit; I seem to remember someone having a problem with the Wingman scissors snapping.

ok thanks all for the answer.

Time for some change after all the reading on this topic and in the mod section.

It gonna be on an old wave, no big change. And it will be sak scissor as they cut better and i manage to find one in my garage (no need to buy a wingman).

quite like in this thread: http://forum.multitool.org/index.php?topic=41869.0

just wondering why he doesn't drill in the hole, so the lock would have work.

Glad to see someone else doing this mod. :tu:

As I said there, the hole should be raised from the actual Victorinox pin hole, and the bottom of the scissors flattened for the lock to work properly. :D

There was actually a mod done later that added a shim to the scissors so the scissors don't lock in 90° anymore, just full open position. Can't find it now though. :-\
