Any Case Knife Collectors? - Help With Date Stamp.
on: January 26, 2015, 12:05:42 AM
I was thinking this is a 1993, but it seems older. Has the 93 stamp, but according to date stamp charts there should be dots and I see none.

It may be 2010.

"In 2000, Case developed a dating system using an old style Case XX stamp along with a mix of dots and x’s both above the Case XX symbol and below. Case started with 5 x’s, and 5 dots in 2000. For each year thereafter, they removed one dot. When all of the dots were gone after 2005, the x’s were removed one by one until 2010."

Yes, I got that.  My thing is that it has the 1993 stamp but it does not have the dots.

It looks much too used for a 4 year old knife. Also the lack of USA under the Case XX.

2000 to 2010 didn't have the USA under the stamp.

It does look older than a 4 year old knife.Never underestimate the damage someone can do to a knife.

And the knife inkster has here does have the USA hence my 1993-1999 assumption. The lack of dots would then make it 1999 then, right?

No, 1999 would be one dot (see here ...http://www.wrcase.com/case_college/tang_stamps/  ... and click on the "group" for a pop-up showing each year)

To me it looks like the dots ... or where the dots should be ... is obscured by the scales. It might be that the dots were stamped a little lower than normal on this item which is why they are hard to see

From the middle of 1993 to 1999, Case returned to the dot system that was used in the 70′s and 80′s. Case also returned to using a long tailed C on the word Case which resembled the older tang stamps. The dots started in 1993, and one was removed for every year until 2000. On some knives in this era, the S in U.S.A. is lightening shaped like those in the 80′s.

So it appears it may be 1999.
