SOG Powerlock Traveler
on: January 29, 2015, 10:23:49 PM
Another "new" SOG multitool

http://www.sogknives.com/travelers.html

Available in Satin and BO. Apparently just a powerlock without any blades (duh). Of interest is that it appears to have a new implement on it, not sure what it is.

"DESCRIPTION

The PowerLock Traveler is a SOG workhorse featuring flip opening, locking components, and a synthetic sheath with belt clip. Additionally, this tool is designed to follow the specific carry-on regulations of the United States Transportation Security Administration.
The PowerLock Traveler complies with TSA regulations as of August 2014, and has been tested in airports around the world for travel-approved tools (visit www.tsa.gov for full details).  Please remember that travel regulations may vary from country to country, and approval of travel compliance may be revoked by a TSA agent at any time."

Nice to UK legal multitools being made in the States

Funny thing is,and I'm not knocking SOG, but there's enough long pointy bits that I can't really see how it'll be allowed on planes
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

The small flat head screwdriver (technician's) I'd say. Don't remember seeing that one before.

I am thinking those TSA are checking them by the book: MT with no knife = Ok....
One can do lots damage with a hammer, much more than a knife could.

Something like this would be exciting from Leatherman, or even Gerber (to a lesser extent, b/c they put out variations a lot) but from SOG it's a kind of like "who cares". SOGs can be user configured. Going on a flight?  Pack the blades in your checked luggage and reinstall when you land in Atlanta. The most exciting thing about this to me is the technician screwdriver. If they had come up with some more new implements to put in place of the blades, that would be exciting. Sorry SOG.

I'm still pumped on the SwitchPlier 2.0, though!

PS - Put out a PowerAssist with one of the blades replaced with ANYTHING ELSE, and I will buy it. Seriously, if it came with a file that opened assisted, I would buy it. Or scissors. Or the V-cutter, saw, or C4 punch - I would buy it. :D

The more I think about this, why didn't SOG adapt/offer the PocketPowerPlier as the "Traveler"? The PowerLock is going to have wasted space, with only 2 long + 6 short tools. A normal PL has 4 long + 6 short tools, that will mean 2 empty slots. A PPP can take 2 long + 6 short tools and it more compact (travel friendly)

Just another example of a MT company not making a lot of sense.

According to the description on Amazon, the new driver is a Robertson driver  :tu:

no one says you can't take money on to a plane. Lots of change in a sock creates quite a nice weapon by all accounts.
