Sidewing? Sidekick CS?
on: January 30, 2015, 10:48:34 PM
Backstory:
I got a wingman about 8 months ago from Menards just under 25 bucks. Earlier this week I tried the single-wing wingman mod and unfortunately I did not like it at all...AND to top it off I couldn't put the wingman back together again.   so after trying for stores I figured I would have to pay 30 bucks for replacement or try the sidekick for 50. One last trip to Home Depot however and they had one sidekick and the price tag was $9!!!! I don't know if it was clearance or what but for 9 dollars I got it no questions asked. After adding scissors and replacing file/ruler (which I NEVER USED) with package opener, I now have this. Not much to some, but I love it!!!!

scissors and package were from old wingman. The mod itself took less than 10 mins.

Thank you sir. It covers all the basics. I even use the package opener to make pilot holes for screws.

Kampfer: do you think you can make one of those "custom leatherman diagrams" for this tool?  :D that would be awesome.

Nice to see you ended up with something you like.  :tu:
What was the issue with getting the Wingman back together? Did the boys not help you out?

I couldn't get the pliers to line back up, and after a couple hours of trying I just decided to get another. But the sideman turned out wayyyyyy better. I actually like it better.

Thanks kampfer, looks great.  :D  :D

You are welcome, here is my thought.

I do not see why is the package opener so important, it is a single function implement, it does nothing else but opening package.
And you already have knife and scissors on the MT ... If you really want one, you can sharpen the can opener to fill such function, which I did on my Mini-Surge.

The short SE blade is also unnecessary, I converted it to an awl.

The file and ruler are pretty much useless, but the small flat head diver on its tip is handy, I am keeping the whole implement just for that.
That is just me.

I also use the package opener for pilot holes for screws and I even use it as a light duty debur tool. I hadn't used the small driver at all, so I don't miss it, and I like have a separate serrated blade rather than the combo blade. We cut a lot of plastic banding, so using the smaller dedicated serrated makes my job easier, while still having a full pe blade.

i would love to have an awl on the wave instead of the eyeglass screwdriver tho...maybe it will be an option on the next gen.

Hi Demel, I am looking for the saw from a Sidekick to fit to my Wingman. Do you have a spare one I could buy off you?

I sent the saw to someone a couple months back. try home depot. You may find a sidekick laying around still for cheap.

Got a new wingman (because I destroyed the scissors on the sidekick  ) and now introducing the Copilot. Got the name from a previous thread. http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,32375.msg533937.html#msg533937 Nothing new. Just didn't want the can opener on it. I will use the sidekick parts to make a plsk.

Edit:
I would classify this tool as an urban edc tool.
