Rebar file mod
on: February 07, 2015, 05:26:48 PM
Has anyone tried to fit a diamond file from a Wave/Charge in place of the Rebar file ? I'm wondering if it would fit maybe with a little reprofiling.

nope, it won't fit. check out the difference in the pivot area between the diamond file vs. one of the internal tools:

but the biggest limiting factor is the fact that the pivot hole on the diamond file is larger (7/32") than the pivot hole on the internal tools (3/16"), so unless you have a way to add more metal to it, it's not gonna work.

It looks like the only way would be to cut off the end and drill a new hole and try and match the pivot area.

Happened to have the parts handy.  Dimensionally your idea could work though I haven't checked the bottom edge clearance.

Not near them to really check it out but I'm thinking it could be done.

You could use a bushing to pack out the pivot or just leave it as is.

Get the re profiling right and once locked there would only be a little movement if any.

Hmm , It does look doable but a bit of work and the bottom edge clearance could be an issue.

I noticed afterwards that the "can-opener" I superimposed was re-profiled as a package opener.    Hope that hasn't misled.

I have owned a Rebar before, and the file was much more agressive profiled than the current one on my Wave, it feels like the coarse part on the Wave the it is rounded. It does not feel like it agressive grinding than the one on my rebar.
Is that normal for the Wave/charge files.

From my own perspective i would say that the rebar file is better because the teeth are sharper.

why would anyone want to do this 'mod'???
the Rebar file is far superior IMHO to the nasty diamond file/ineffective file on the wave etc. I think it lets down the flagship tool to be honest.

I find the Rebar file quite soft. For me the diamond file can come in handy. Otherwise I find a real file for the job.

How is the para sling working out?

I kind of gave up on the idea, let us know how it works out. It also looks like the Wave/Charge parts that were for sale on the forum are all gone  :(
