Smiths 10-N-1 Multitool.

Perhaps I missed something but it seems Smiths (better known for their sharpening gear) have come out with a outdoor based multitool: http://www.alloutdoor.com/2015/01/30/smiths-edgesport-10-n-1-survival-multi-tool/  Looks like it might be worth a closer look.

And in the same color scheme as the Signal.....

That actually looks quite well thought out

A heck of a lot cheaper than the Signal as well. ;)

 :D :D :D

... and ....

Cheaper than the Signal
More pocketable than the Signal
A heck of a lot more useful than the Signal if lost in the woods.

Plain edged knife
Saw
A sharpener that is actually compatible with the knife edge
A sharpener that anyone can use without experience
Navigation
Audio/Visual signalling
Illumination (capable of hands free)
Fire
Tweezers
Spare bootlace

I'll certainly get one of these to play with if they appear over here at a fair price

EDIT: A few years ago, I got some basic survival goodies for a couple of friends of mine who were never prepared, and wouldn't know what to do even if they were. I gave them the tools and some basic insight as to what they could do with the various items if they ever found themselves in a sticky situation. One day they got disorientated in the woods with failing light. A teeny little LED light and button compass similar to what is in this kit, helped them find their way out of the woods and back to the car safely ... and possibly just as importantly, helped them remain calm while they did so.

But but but how will we survive outdoors without pliers and a bit-holder?

It's the absence of a carabiner/caplifter that you want to really worry about

Carabiners can be very handy for some things, but with so many products having them I can't help but imagine coming across someone with about 20 things dangling off their pack and person.

Meh... I just generally hate multitools with flashlights, whistles, fire starters, or other things of that nature.  :td:

Seems Smiths have also come up with a new knife as well: http://www.alloutdoor.com/2015/01/30/smiths-edgesport-survival-knife/

Wow..... It comes in at the price range I would have expected from a tool like the Signal.  Gotta say, even though I'm no fan of these kinds of "survival" tools, this one seems to have a good mix of features for the price range.
I just don't care for the gimmicky stuff, but this one seems to present some decent functionality.

I kind of like the knife, except that the pocket clip is positioned so that the knife would be sticking WAY out of your pocket whilst being clipped.

The multi tool looks pretty cool, too. Definitely more "emergency self-rescue" or "survival" as everyone today likes to call it (hey! I'm not dying, so I must be surviving!) as opposed to the LM Signal which is more of a camping/back-packing tool.

Wakey wakey sleepy thread!  :D

Has anyone got one of these and put it through it's paces yet? Despite being armed with a compass, they don't seem to have been able to navigate their way to this side of the pond  :P

The more annoying thing is, that if this had got Leatherman written on it, lots of members would have tried and and reviewed it by now so we'd know what it's like  :P

C'mon guys, who's going to take one for the team and find out what these are like in the flesh?  :pok: :D

I think I posted this video somewhere else on the forum, but it's worth doing it again.

Ok, well if anyone is prepared to pick one up and send it this way, I'll accept it as trade / partial trade against items in my for sale thread....
