Well maybe I can't love you after all
on: February 10, 2015, 12:31:09 PM
This weekend I went to look at Gerber tools as I just received my mp 400 and it's pretty nice. So I first went to Cabela's and then to Cherokee and all I found was horrible junk that wouldn't open. At Cabela's I tried to play with the flick but it wouldn't open and no one there could get it too. Ok thanks but no thanks. Next stop Cherokee to try and play with a diesel, again I was experiencing similar issues so I left that tool as well. Has anyone experienced this with those two tools.

When I first got flicky Gerbers, they wouldn't flick at all and I wondered what all the excitement was about. Turns out it was operator error and I was doing it wrong. Today though, I don't tend to flick them, rather depress the buttons and let the handles drop away. I find it quicker and more natural, and my hand finishes in a better position to use the pliers straight away

My BO Diesel is stiffer to open due to the coating, but never had one that wouldn't open at all. Gunked up display model?

I've got a box full of flicky Gerbers, some old, some bought new and never once has any of them ever refused to open.

I can only assume this to be operator error - whatever flicking technique you're using is probably not how Gerber envisioned their multitools  to open too.

I don't claim to know it all, but what I do know is right.

I am pretty sure Ash is not talking about flicking. She is saying it will not open no matter how she tries.

To answer your question though. I have seen or owned about 40 or so MP 600's, as you know the 400's big brother. Not once have I had or heard about this happening.

Prolly got a lemon.

As for the Diesel, I know Monrogue and Higgs like them so they are prolly cursed now.

I'll say this much Ash,the 4and600s are the best of the bunch. I've got Fliks and Diesels, but the 4and600 are the real deal. Took me two years to learn to flick my 425 though

Heck no one could get the flick to open at all. The diesel was just stiff as well

I did a video a shot time ago.  It's not the only way to flick open a Gerber, but it does work for me.

Haha, I too like Gareth's accent :tu:

I have the MP400, Flik and Diesel, and they aren't cursed as Harley said ::)  They can take some getting used to, but I don't have any trouble with them.  It sounds like you somehow got a string of duds or something   I actually really enjoy the flicky fun, but overall, Gerbers aren't as much for me mainly due to the inability to extend the handles.
