As part of an effort to get/keep the forum running healthy one of the suggested tweaks is to disable the Calendar as it consumes quite a bit of resources for very little use. Being that polls are the democratic method of choice on the forum, I thought I'd get some feedback before I disable it.

If it seems that it is used and needed we can keep it and look at other optimizations (which will likely happen regardless of the outcome here).
The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.

Very seldom do I look at the calendar. It is nice to know when birthdays are though.

Really other than a very occasional meet couldn't we just have a pinned birthday thread with just a list of everyone bday?
Maybe there is some other system that records birthdays that's easier than a calender?

As I understand it we still have the "today's birthdays" in the main page info window regardless of the calendar being enabled or not. The major difference being that we can add other events such as Shot show, meetups etc for all to view in the calendar, and browse birthdays easily.

I still think a pinned post with a picture of a calender would probably work just fine

It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

I think Allan and I are the only ones that use it to check for birthdays. :D

Seems to be leaning pretty overwhelmingly in favour of not using or unaware of the existence...

If the "today's birthdays" show, then I'd say to get rid of it if it'll free up some resources.

Does it consume so much resources because it says "carried MechaRogue" for every conceivable date that the software can generate?  :P
