By hip flask, do you mean a small flask for whisky or other spirits? If so, I have heard good things about the Stanley Hip Flask. A buddy has one, and he loves it.

i stick with one ive had for 17 years,its made of silver with celtic patterns on,its also got a dent in it from a night fishing trip some 15 years ago

Pewter is OK for 3-4 days silver a little longer, but make sure you was them well and dry with lid removed in cold winters my whisky doesn't last long

I have a couple that haven't been used for a looooong time. What's the best way of giving these a deep clean before using them again?
This thread brings up a question I've always had about flasks. Here in the states aren't you immediately breaking the law as soon as you leave your property with an open container? I know most of us use flasks in the back country where it's not a problem. But there is still the issue of transporting it to your end location. Can we get some people from the states and other countries to weigh in on this?
