Hello my fellow crazies
on: February 25, 2015, 02:47:37 PM
Hi Everybody

I recently found this site/forum when I realized I needed another Leatherman....  and started researching a bit.

I have (Microsoft branded give away) Micra that I've used daily for 15+ years.  Ask me not what for and I'll tell you no lies.....

I also have a Core that saw some heavy use on Yamaha outboards and illegal fishing nets while I was guiding on the Zambezi river a few years ago.  More recently it's become part of an all-in-one camping / BOB bag.

I got a Rebar recently, researching that purchase is how I found this site.  I was looking for an EDC, but it turned out to be a bit heavy.
Due to my XXXL size and tendency to over-power and break things I chose the Rebar over the SideKick/Wingman.
The Rebar is now part of a small get-home/PSK.

Last week came the point where MTO started costing me money I don't have (also short on self control)...

Got a Skeletool plus the screwdriver bit from the Wave and removed the pocket clip.
I keep the bit in the handle, works better for me.

I have to say, all things considered the Skeletool is my favourite Leatherman so far, warts & all  8)

As far as collecting is concerned, I can only afford fixed blade knives, and I like them big in general, but not exclusively.

Thanks for all the good info shared on the site & forum.

Cheers
Gerhard

Hi and welcom Gerhard! Where are you from?

Thanks, but I beg to differ..........the manufacturers should be paying this site big-time....I saw some of those collector threads..........crazy/wondeful/beautiful! 8)

I'm from Namibia, sure you can google it so I'll spare you the details.....
Currently (unfortunately) back in the capitol city, Windhoek.
(for now still) The best or 2nd best country in Africa to live in...

Yadda, ductTapeTech.....will do.

I collected knives when I was a kid, got my small collection stolen when I was about 16.....broke me.
All I had left was 1 Puma folder, fortunately my most expensive knife, but not my favourite.

I was on a work trip last year, sick as a dog looking for a pharmacy, when I spot this knife shop.
For the 1st time in years I have some disposable income, so after about 3 hours of browsing (never made it to the pharmacy...) I walked out with a Cudeman 117-R.

Since then I've added a few:
TOPS Silent Hero (xmas gift to myself)
Buck/TOPS CSRT (or whatever)( the fixed blade one)
Buck Reaper
Tekut Ares
CS GI Tanto heavily modified.

Also got the UC ninja sword machete......will be modified shortly, this is just a cheap toy  >:D

User knives that are part of a BOB/camping bag:
CG Bushman, the bowie blade version.  Terribly under-rated, this is a cheap monster of a knife that takes a lot of abuse....

Mora Bushcraft black.  I was already a fan when I got a lime green SS Companion, but the carbon steel BB is even better.

If I had to duck&run I'm pretty sure the safe queens will stay in the safe, the Mora and Bushman will come along for the ride.

Will post some pics.....soon.....weekend most likely.

Thanks for the welcome

Gerhard

I know....... :P  :D

In my own defense, Gerber products were never freely available locally, now it is, and it has an orange BG on it.........can you blame me?

Just remembered, I have an EAB! 8)

There are some older Gerber products I wish I could get hold of, but same as a PST and Mini, the logistics and $$$ is a problem.

I envy you, my tastes run more in that direction as well, but I pay too heavy a price if I indulge even lightly....  :drink:
