Lost my MP 600. looking for input on replacement.
on: February 26, 2015, 12:34:52 AM
I had an MP 600 for 12 years or so.   I lost it on the side of the highway after skme field expedient car repairs.  I dont know the exact model for sure but after surfing the interwebs I think it was a pro scout.  I would like all of the pro scout tools with the addition of the carbide currers.  My previous MP cutters were pretty beat up.  Is there a model that fits the bill?  If not can I mod one into existence?

  Thanks for the help!

MP600 Blade less is essentially a ProScout  with cutters, but minus a knife. So get one and get a dedicated folder to pair it with ;)

And yes, you can absolutely mod a MP600 to your liking. Many here, have.

Welcome to MTO!
If the Pro Scout was working good for you - and your description sounds like it did - why not get a new (used) one and fit a head with carbide cutters?
There are many nice options out there, but if you just want replacement for a lost tool and an upgrade why not get just that (for starters).
If you stay around, you probably end up with enough tools to equip a whole offshore oil rig sooner or later.

A few basics around here:
When undecisive, buy both
Buy a few SAKs (Swiss Army Knives) right away so we do not have to talk you into buying them
If all else fails, blame Kirk.

Shame they're not doing a MP600 Pro Scout with replaceable cutters any more, I know they used to.  The good news is that it's pretty simple to swap the heads on the MP600 so you can easily make your own if you get the parts. :)

Okay...  I can see how this is going to go.  Multitools will be a new minor obsession for me.  I have a milsurp M600 coming.  Where can I get a remgrit blade adapter to fit to the new m600?

That was pretty quick. Welcome to the downward spiral!
You need to source amodel with the remgrit adaptor to harvest that tool. There should be cheap/abused ones on eBay regularly.

I feel for you brother.

be wary of the carbide cutters, they make it a lot hard to actually cut anything

Thanks for the input.  In the 12 years I owned my Gerber without the carbide cutters I managed to damage the water cutter portion of the head several times.

How does one get a bunch of them sitting around?
Do you have to be in a particular job role to be issued those?  I don't think I've seen one in the wild

Harley likes to look at them, he never mentioned "using then around the house" otherwise he would switch to LM

Since I bought my first LM from Joel they do not actually get used much anymore.

The reason I have six of the same tool is the Army issued them to me at one time or another. Just kept them in a duffel bag with other extra Army stuff.
