question regarding bits
on: March 11, 2015, 12:28:10 AM
On tools like the Pocket Wrench II and the Schrade Ti Tool, what kind of bits would you suggest using?  I guess more specifically what holds the bits from falling out?  Is it just the pressure of turning the screw?  Would the Leatherman bit set be a good choice?  thanks......tony

Short answer, your thumb holds them from falling out. They take the normal 1/4 bits and will take the LM bits too but you have to keep them in place.

If you want bits that have a retention "ball", look into Chapman bits.

That's kind of what I figured.  Where can you purchase the Chapman bits?  Are they worth it or does simply holding the bits in place with your finger work pretty well?  I also was wondering if Chapman makes a magnetic bit holder that could be used with conventional bits that might be another option?  thanks....tony

You can use a regular $1 magnetic bit adapter wit the Pocketwrench too and then there will be no sliding out.

And Chapman bits are available through ebay, amazon, straight from the manufacturer, ... just google them. They come in various numbers of bits and some with the excellent midget ratchet.

I've used this setup with a rubber grommet or O-ring:

Never noticed them before. But being limited to only the flathead and phillips kind of draws me more to the Chapman ones with a larger selection.
