Clip for SOG Powerduo? YES, it is Possible!!!
on: March 17, 2015, 01:07:58 AM
Hello, I am new here and I want to introduce myself with a little mod of one of my SOGs:

A pocket clip for a SOG Powerduo, see pics I share:

You only need the clip of a MTech MT-748BKH Tactical Rescue Folder Seat Belt Cutter (very cheap, you see)

http://www.moosecreekgear.com/mtech-mt748bkh-linerlock-rescue-knife.html

The clip has 3 holes, and I could only use the central one, with no modifications.

PROS:

- At last belt carry!!!
- Cheap modification
- Clip in black color
- Very long and sturdy clip.

CONS:

- To install the clip you have to completely dismount the multitool components, because it must be in the right side (I think I lost some washers or their correct order in the way). IT IS NOT EASY! (the locking mechanism is a nightmare too!)
- With only 1 hole used it can rotates, so in some very few occasions nearly drop. (the handle has those little points and If you screw strong the clip in the hole then the multi components block!, if possible using two holes of the clip that would not happen)
- It is not deep carry (minor flaw)

Neverthless IMHO I think it is not bad for a noob like me  :)

P.S.: Sorry for my english guys, and pleased to be here!!!  :salute:

Hi and welcome! Nice mod!
Why can't you install clip on the other side for right handed carry?
If it is because the silding button, then don't need to worry. You can open another tool to unlock the opened tool, as long as you don't have all three opened.

Here is my approach to the pocket clip.

How do you like the PD? I found it is kinda uncomfortable to carry even with a clip, never carry mine once.

Hi:

Because of the release button for the tools

I didn´t know I can disengage the toos by moving the others!

I usually carried in my belt (hip), and sometimes was a pain

Welcome bud!

Very very nice introduction!

Why can't you tap and screw a small screw into another hole on the clip? I would think an eyeglass screw would be short enough to not go through the scale?

I thought it but I was afraid of destroying the scale

What are your overall thoughts on the powerduo?

What are your overall thoughts on the powerduo?

Well, I am a noob here, but I am very keen on multitools and SAKS, and I have read a lot of them in internet including you guys, so IMHO:

- The knife is not perfect, but very accesible and with a good size, very similar to SAK one handed.
- The pliers are the best component of the tool (compound leverage, as you know), but they look to me flimsy. I prefer the ones of the PPP, althought both theorically, by size, are the same (I don´t like the plastic parts of the powerduo).
- I have no experience of use with the other components, but I prefer the ones in the PPP.
In the powerduo they seem uncomfortable to use. :-\
- The locking mechanism is bad. Mine now works far better, but when I received it was like glued and fall apart the thumb stud when I tried to move it  :ahhh
- I have carried in my belt with the clip and in my pocket, and it is a pain.
- And last, but no least important: I believe its look is too agressive (police in my country would not believe is a multitool, but a folding knife, and more in BO color), and I would prefer something like:

The power assist model B66 (outside opening of blades), BUT WITHOUT THE ASSISTED OPENING (assisted blades here are illegal $$$$$$$$ ) , with more components in the handle of the blades and with the size of the PPP.
I think that would be a winner
(I think all of us desire the same   )

Good summary. I will be getting one soon. Glad to hear other opinions.
