Maybe a better question would be... would you really miss the fish scaler if it was removed?   :think:
Yes! you would, for ever :o When you know something was in there and now is missing, you can't avoid missing those thing, in mind >:D regardless of actual needs :D Not even to mention when you came across French-fries, olives ... :facepalm:

Fingers?  For getting olives....  hmmm wood saw.   :think:

I love the combo tool.  :climber:

But if you want to see a mega combo tool on a swiss army knife type, see this from Spanish brand Aitor:  :tu:

I've never really thought of the fish scaler tool as an eating utensil, but it makes a pretty good fork for eating.  Not sharp, so it won't cut you.  It would be interesting to have a similar 3 or 4 prong tool, perhaps with tongs that went a little deeper (longer).

Not even to mention when you came across French-fries, olives ... :facepalm:

Excellent idea!

The other real use I've found for the scaler is for a sheet rock saw- works as well as the wood saw for quick outlet holes and the like, but because it's dull, it won't knick wiring. And it is the bane of pumpkins everywhere.

Another good idea. I think I've got some scrap sheet rock around, I may try this.

3 -->  (8.3%)____Combo tool

9 -->  (25%)_____Fish scaler

6 -->  (16.7%)___Actually, I'd like to get rid of the parcel carrier hook...

50% of the people who voted doesn't wish for any of the two tools in question to be eradicated from production.

Then of course there's option #5 concerning the parcel carrier hook; the way the poll is layed out it doesn't clearly specify that the contestants are just two, the fish scaler tool and the can/bottle opener combo tool, and option #5 seems to be having double the negative votes, so to speak, than the combo tool. The fish scaler tool gets most of the negative votes, 9 out of 18, that's 50% and the remaining 2/3 go to the hook leaving the combo tool with 1/3 or 3 votes.

Thanks everyone. These are all very interesting finds.

So if we had a compact fisherman, would it have the cs or back sd? Thinking 2 layers, but then if 3 layers, pliers or scissors? Then if scissors, hook, hook with file, long file, or no back tools?

 >:D

 ;)

 :D Hmm, that is a very good question. Corkscrew for me, because the SAK has to have (at least) one in my mind and also because the (+) SD doesn't help much with the fish. It can help with fishing gear but then so does the corkscrew by untying knots, which I find very useful :tu:

Scissors or pliers, probably pliers. I don't fish much anyway, I haven't done that in more than ten years so I wouldn't know. I'm guessing that I got the blabe and the fish scaler so why not another tool, for better handling slippery, wet things, small and pointy such as the hook ( there goes that word again :D ) or the fishing line or the little lead weighs you add on it?

As for the parcel carrier hook, I want one of course but one without the nail file please  :ahhh

     ...  And I stand by my theory that the hook is an IQ test.

:tu: And that's the truth! Teach me, Meister, he cried out with a trembling voice.  :cheers:

Thanks for the link. To be honest, combo tools terrify me a little, I don't trust me using them  ::) Have you any idea why are there serrations on the lower part of that combo tool?

Ah yes I have vague recollections of having used the fish scaler as a back scratcher once now you mention it. But mostly for me it's a great pointy tool.

And my dislike of the parcel carrier hook ? I've never needed to rescue my glasses (yet ... I reserve the right to change my mind) ... and the hook seems just too inadequate except to carry, say, a hamsters shopping bag. Perhaps this begs the question "Who has used the parcel hook in anger" ?  :think:

I've never used the parcel hook in anger, but I've never used it for it's designated purpose, either. It is great at picking out the knots that little kids seem to tie in everything, though. And I've used it to hang my bag in a public restroom when the stall's coat hanger was broken off.

... the hook seems just too inadequate except to carry, say, a hamsters shopping bag. Perhaps this begs the question "Who has used the parcel hook in anger" ?  :think:

I have used the hook to carry a few things around, not for great distances though. The hook was up to the task of lifting loads ranging from 5 to 25 kgs approx. What troubles me is side to side play that could damage the pin and the SAK. This and the fact that what I'm carrying can get off the hook easily if I'm moving quickly without paying attention.

I really like the hook for two reasons, one was mentioned already here:

     ...  And I stand by my theory that the hook is an IQ test.

In other words, that hook is a boost to one's imagination and improvisation skills.  :ahhh

The second reason is more mundane, I find the hook deployed is very helpful if I'm going to use the scissors for anything more than just a few snips. It helps hold the SAK more freely and I particularly appreciate that while trimming my sideburns.

My bucket list now includes eating either escargot or smoked oysters with the fish scaler.
As a bonus the tab on the smoysters will break and I get to use the combo to finish opening the can.

As the last cracker of the box disappears with the last smoyster of the tin, I ascend to SAK Valhalla.  A valkyrie presesnts me with a bugnard harvester.
PM me if you want one of my kidneys for your SOG TiNi multitool.

OK, both my kidneys.
